Welcome!

I figure I'll probably be the only one here for a short while, but warmest welcomes as you come on over! I was hanging out in the September 2012 DDC, but since my EDD is October 2, I figured I should get things started over here!

Feel free to introduce yourselves too.  I'll start.  This is my first pregnancy, so I'm feeling hopeful and excited. We conceived with the help of donor sperm, Clomid, and 2 IUIs at a clinic. We're a queer couple very much in love, and excited for this journey.

Hello!!! Thanks for setting up this DDC, dandylez :)

I just got my BFP today! This will be our second baby, my DD is 27 months, and I lived for my last October (2009) DDC.

How exciting! Can't wait to meet the other Mama's!

Congrats Caitlyn!!! Nice to meet you!  How many DPO are you? Do you have an EDD yet?

Hi Dandy and Caitlyn! I just got my BFP this morning. It's only just the day I'm supposed to start so it's still so early. I hope I'm not jumping the gun by joining. This is our first, so I'm new to the whole experience. We've been trying for a year so now that it's actually happening, I'm almost numb. It's so hard to believe. I woke my husband up this morning to tell him and he couldn't stop grinning. I just can't help but sit here wondering, what now? :)

Welcome, femmeknitzi!! So glad to see you over here!  And congratulations!!! joy.gif

I'm still on the 'just found out' rollercoaster, so I know how you're feeling!!

Question of the day: What are you most looking forward to / excited about?

Hi Ladies!  Congrats to everybody!  I'm due October 1st with my 2nd.  DD1 was born in Oct 2009, so we must have been in the same DDC before, Caitlyn!

We're in the middle of moving/unpacking, and I'm definitely already noticing some that first trimester exhaustion.  I hope everyone else is feeling well!

Congrats Libby! Sorry to hear about the exhaustion--as if moving wasn't exhausting enough!

Thanks Dandy. It's such a surreal feeling. I'm really looking forward to telling my husband's Nana. She's in fine health but she's celebrating her 87th birthday on Saturday so naturally I've wondered if she'd be around for this part of our lives.

I have a housekeeping question...why is it when I go to the due date clubs under the forum, it only lists October 2011? I hadn't ever explored the groups until Dandy pointed me over here.

DPO - not exactly sure, somewhere around 18? My cycle legnth is variable nut.gif I used an average of 30 days in an online calculator, and got an EDD of 10-4-12. My first pregnancy I went to 41+5 so I'm definately planning on a mid-October baby. If things happen faster this time, that would be a welcomed surprise!

LibbyLou - I was actually in the September 2009 DDC, but my DD took her time - she ended up being an October baby! I have to admit, I was way more of a thread stalker than a poster last time, this time I won't be :)

femmeknitzi - I noticed that about the DDC also! I would have missed it as well, but I happened to be looking around for something else :)

I think next week I'll start interviewing some Midwives! I already have one in mind - but thought I should to some due diligence. Oh - and I'm hoping for a home birth this time! joy.gif

Hi! I am unexpectedly pregnant and due October 5th. I had a miscarriage in December 2010, so I'm a bit nervous. I have two older kids (10 and 6) with my ex-husband. This baby and the miscarriage were both with my SO, whom I am not 100% sure I want to spend the rest of my life with. I was in the process of discerning that when I got a positive pregnancy test.

Welcome LibbyLou and Cathochick! I hope you're both feeling good!

Cathochick, as LibbyLou said, that does sound like a lot to deal with, so I hope you're doing okay.

As for the forum/group listing, I'm not really sure why that is. I *think* that MDC switched all the DDCs from forums to groups for some reason, and so the old ones are still under forums.  It's confusing, I know, but I'm glad you all made it here!

Femmeknitzi - That's amazing about your DH's nana!  It's so, so wonderful when older relatives are here to share these joys!! When are you planning to tell her?  I have an older aunt who I'm very close to, who I can't wait to tell.  I'm planning to wait for the 8 week mark though.

Another housekeeping thing: I'm going to start the EDD list thread, so let me know if anything changes with your EDDs.

Thanks for setting this up!  I'm cautiously expecting #5 in early Oct.  I just had a m/c in September so I'm taking this one a day at a time!

RedSonja: #5 is awesome!! (I'm one of five kids, so I'm a big fan of lots of siblings!!)

Thanks!  I only have one brother who is 11 years younger than I am, so my family thought 3 was huge.  Then they thought we had lost our minds with #4.  I won't be mentioning this time around until maybe the 2nd trimester!  I love watching my kids interact and play though, it makes me wish I had siblings closer in age!

Wow, all these veteran mamas make me feel like I'm in good company! Welcome everyone and congrats!

Dandy, thanks for explaining! I was uber confused and wouldn't have made it here without your help in the TTC threads!!

I told my mom today at lunch and she cried. It was really awesome. We plan to tell my husband's family this weekend and give them all the requisite warnings about how soon it still is. I know it's so soon to be telling people, but this is one of the few times we'll have all the family together and so it's just too perfect. Besides, I'm a terrible liar with no poker face. LOL Beyond the immediate family, though, we're going to at least wait until my appointment with the midwife at 7 weeks to tell friends and co-workers.

I'm actually missing a good friend's birthday party tomorrow night because I'm a HUGE beer lover and all our friends know we've been trying so the second I turn down a brew, I might as well just take out a billboard! HAHA! I've got a similar problem next weekend, because another friend wants to celebrate her birthday in a smokey club! How the hell am I going to keep this secret?!?!

What about y'all? Will you keep it secret the full trimester or 8 weeks or are you as much a blabbermouth as me?

That's awesome about telling your mom, Femmeknitzi!! I'm also glad that we have so many veterans in this DDC.  I'm totally obsessing and I know I'm going to have tons of questions as things progress.

I told my immediate family almost right away, as soon as we had confirmation with a blood test from the clinic.  It was my sister's moving day and we were all supposed to help, so I just came in and said, "We're here, but I can't lift anything."  Because everyone knew we were in the TWW (the joys of inseminating at a clinic), they got it right away.  We told DP's parents on speaker phone that same morning and my MIL and I both started to cry.  It was pretty cool!  Outside of immediate family, I've told a couple who are my best friends.  They told me right away when they were pregnant with their little guy, and I just couldn't imagine keeping this from them.  Everyone else will wait until at least 8 weeks, and maybe 12, depending on who they are.

That situation with birthday parties is a tough one! Especially the smokey club. Yuck! We've been smoke-free in bars and restaurants here in Ontario forever, so I can't imagine being in a smokey club pregnant or not! winky.gif  I have a birthday dinner on Saturday night and I'm hoping I can keep people from figuring it out.  A few of them know we were trying but I'm worried about one couple in particular -- the gay men in our group will be oblivious, but the lesbians with kids are more attuned!!   I have a feeling my ex will be there too, so I really don't want to deal with awkwardly dodging questions because I'm not downing the red wine as usual. Good luck fending off the questions on your end!!!

What about symptoms? How is everyone feeling?

My bbs are very swollen and sore, and I've had some heartburn / reflux nastiness! I get pretty tired by mid-afternoon, and I've been giving myself permission to nap. (It could just be an excuse to snooze on these cold days!)

No symptoms here yet, just not feeling very hungry at all, food isn't appealing.  The nausea will probably start in another week or two, so I'm going to enjoy not having it yet!

I've told a couple close friends, but that's it.  I'm hopefully going to wait until close to 20 weeks this time around.  I hadn't told anyone about my last pregnancy yet, then ended up 16 hours away from home at my in-laws for a wedding and had a miscarriage, ended up in the emergency room.  It was horrible, so I'm waiting quite a while.  Plus I'm not expecting any positive comments from our families, so I'm just going to keep the news to my friends who I know will be supportive.

Red, I'm sorry you had that experience. That sounds terrible. I can understand wanting to wait, especially if you know you're not going to get the support you need.

Dandy, yeah, there aren't many smokey places here either and the group tends to stay away from them in general. But it's been a long time since any of us have gone dancing and I think that's why she wants to go. I'm just going to have to be sick again!

I thought my symptoms were pretty simple. Sore breasts, headaches and some crazy emotional jags. But just a few minutes ago, I think I had a wave of nausea. Is it too early for this? (4 weeks) I would say this is one of my biggest anxieties--throwing up in public and at work. My office is quite a ways from the nearest bathroom and when that random wave just hit I wondered if I should've gotten up just to be safe. But I was thinking it was too early so I didn't. Alls well that ends well this time, but I wonder if I feel that way again if I shouldn't just head for the restroom. Ugh. Not looking forward to this part. LOL

femmeknitzi - I usually end up keeping a small bottle of water and even a travel-size bottle of mouthwash or gum in my purse or in my car, I've had to pull over beside the road and throw up too many times!  After getting stuck in the car once with no way of getting that taste out of my mouth, ick.
