My friend lives in Atlanta and is in desperate need of an extended breast feeding-friendly doctor. She would like it if they leaned towards the holistic side, too...but that's not a requirement. Thank you!

We use Dr. Carol Herrmann in Decatur. She is pro-breastfeeding and fully supported me as I breastfed my son until he was 2 years and 7 months. I doubt she would have batted an eye at us going longer. What I really appreciate about her was her willingness to work with me right after DS was born. It took a long time for my milk to come in (6 days) and DS lost quite a bit of weight. She was good at keeping me calm, monitoring appropriately, and never pushed formula (she did say that if my milk wasn't in at 7 days she would have recommended supplementing, which, at that point, I probably would have agreed with her). She was also the first person to notice that DS was tongue tied and she encouraged me to go get it clipped ASAP. I also find that although she will use medication as appropriate (and will bring up the standard vax schedule) she is very willing to consider alternatives and has good knowledge of nutrition and supplements.
