We recently switched veterinarians.  Our previous vet gave our indoor cats rabies vaccines every year, saying that she "didn't give the 3-year shot, only the 1-year shot."

Our new vet told us that there is only one rabies shot, that it's good for 3 years, that some vets give it every year because they can make more $, and that there is no evidence that it is more effective given yearly, especially for indoor-only cats.

Thanks Luckiest. Many towns and cities now have a three year ordinance. There is actually a 'Rabies Challenge" currently being conducted to prove duration of  immunity for five, then perhaps even seven years. http://www.rabieschallengefund.org/
