Volentarily giving up rights.

Thread Starter

Heres a little background,

I live in Florida, My Sons bio-dad is on the birthcertificate but has only seen the child once, HE contacted ME and said he didnt want any part of this anymore and he wants to give away his rights, i am NOWHERE near ready to get married and do a step parent addoption due to the fact im only 20 and not ready for that. so my question is, it there a way to get his right terminated, with both parties permission or do i HAVE to have a step parent step in. And if there isnt a way to terminate rights until a step parent comes in, (and no time share at all, i have him all the time) is it possible to get Full custody and that be the way we go from there,.. i guess what Im trying to ask is full custody the same thing as giving up rights UNTIL a step parent possibly comes into play? Doesnt full custody mean that he doesnt have a say? Im just lost and looking for answers.

Please any advice is welcome.

Thank you!

Most areas do not allow termination of rights unless another person has been deemed suitable and is ready to adopt.  You can file for sole legal and physical custody and the father can choose not to have visitation, you would have all decision making power but your x would still be just as responsible for support.
