Today's Deals

Figured a thread to share the really great deals of the day might be in order.  I check them daily, but know most people don't.

Today on Babysteals.com they have Robeez shoes.  Robeez are great, and this price can't be beat (I hate paying full price for shoes, they're so expensive!).

At what age do babies actually need shoes?  Weird question...I know.

Robeez aren't like those hard shoes my mom got for me as a tot and then lovingly bronzed. They are more like moccasins with a soft sole and a little elastic at the ankle. I like them even for a kid who can't walk because they seem to stay on. Both kids wore the pair we were given and the shoes are still in good shape.

They don't ever need shoes, unless they're walking and it's snowing.  But Robeez can't be kicked off, and will keep socks on even very small ones, if that's a concern for you.

I didn't start putting any shoes on DS until he started walking though, and then it was Robeez style for traction and warmth on our hardwood floors.

DS is nearly 3 months old and has been using 0-6 month roobez for a few weeks now to keep his socks on and feet warm. He by no means actually needs them, i just really like shoes!

With a May baby, I don't plan on buying shoes even robbiez until fall, and then I'll get some boots.  My kids hate shoes, though...

I just figured we really didn't need them considering we had something like 90 100+ degree days this past year!  We might get one pair, but I don't know how she'll like them so I don't want to buy too much at this point.  Although, those Robeez are super cute!

That's my plan too.  Not necessarily boots though.  Probably Robeez, or something similar, just to keep her feet warm.  Once she starts standing and walking we'll do either soft soled, or semi-soft soled.

That's a link to some super cute robeez like shoes to sew.  I made some for dd2, and they fit great, and were so cute.  It was fun that I could match the outfit she was wearing, too!  I hope to make some more for this baby.  I'm eyeing my stash of scraps.  I could probably come up with some pretty fun and funky combinations!

My kids still hardly wear shoes.  It was in the upper 50s here yesterday and I caught dd (6) just in time as she was taking them off outside.  Honestly, if it had been a dry day, I wouldn't have cared, but her feet (and socks!) were going to get muddy.  My kids mostly wear their rainboots, and only if they have to.

I put shoes on my babies if it's really cold, or they are walking somewhere yucky.  Other than that, they are probably closer to 2 before they are wearing shoes much.  Dd3 is 16mo and still only occasionally wears them when we go out, and rarely keeps them on long.

I also think that bare knees, feet, and elbows help a baby learn to crawl easier.  They seem to get frustrated and delayed when they are slipping and slidding around, or dealing with chunky accessories.  I'm not into pushing babies to do stuff before they are ready, but mine have all had a desire to go, and I wanted it to be as easy for them as possible.  (They were all scooting by 3-4 mo, crawling by 6mo, and walked at 10, 11, barely 9, and 9.5mo)

They will need them when it is very cold outside (or maybe if you let them walk on a dirty place or a hot pavement) and they are walking. My first one walked very very very early, but it was summer, so he didn't need shoes until he was over a year old. Putting shoes on them earlier is restrictive and unnecessary.

Baby feet develop much better when they can walk barefoot, so something like robeeze is great for the beginning. But even for later, soft soled shoes like pedipeds, softstarshoes, stride rites are much better for their little feet than sneakers and the like.

Today's deal is Aiden & Anais Swaddling blankets.  They're pricey, but they are the best blanket on the market for swaddling.  They're huge, I could still use one when DS was 9 mos old, and they have the perfect amount of stretch to get a good tight swaddle without loosening later from too much stretch.

i look at the baby steals thing but i am not sure they are actually steals. i have a 4 pack of the aiden + anais swaddlers--butterfly patch print, 29.76 on amazon + free shipping. the total on baby steals is $35.57 with shipping. of course some of those prints are more on amazon; butterfly patch is the least expensive and is pinkish (we're having a boy but whatever, pink). anyhow. i wish they were real steals, haha. yesterday they had wool dryer balls but i think they can be had elsewhere for less than what baby steals had them for. plus i think i might just make them.

you put it in the dryer with yr clothes, acts like a fabric softener without the chemicals :) supposed to be good for cloth diapering, i read. here's a tutorial: http://www.anktangle.com/2011/03/make-your-own-wool-dryer-balls.html
