Nap time question.

Not sure if DD is considered a babe still or is in the toddler catagory, she is going to be 1 next weekend.

Anyway, ever since she has had consolidated naps she has gone back and forth between taking her long nap in the am and taking it in the afternoon. It never was an issue to me because I always could plan something based on what her first nap was. BUT now she is down to 1 nap and it is a nice 3 hours but she still switches between am and afternoon. It is hard to plan anything like an appointment or even RSVPing to get togethers, etc. I feel like a bad mom if I plan to run errands in the morning and she falls asleep in the car and it cuts her nap short but I also can't always sit around all day waiting on the nap to start. When she takes her nap in the afternoon she doesn't wake up until 4.30 and then she is starving and needs a little snack and then wants supper by 5.30 or she is whiny as heck, etc. She goes to bed at 8 or 9 but I don't want to run errands then either because DH is on the road all day and he likes to play with her in the evenings and it is nice to be home all together as a family. Also, we live 15 miles from town so it is never a quick run.

I know this is a really stupid problem but I was wondering if anyone has experience with this?

i dont think it is a stupid question at all. my twins are settling into one a nap a day these last few weeks, and boy i wish they were 3 hours!  a

as for the timing, can you gently work on a scheduled time that you can then plan around. if the afternoon nap has been happening at 1:30 can you start putting her down at 1 and see if she gets into a rythum with that and if after a week or so she is still napping in the morning actionably, then when she doesn't you could put her down at 12 or 12:30.  with the goal of finding a time that clicks with her body and that she will get used to and regular with.

mind you I'm new at this and going thru the similar things so I'm just thinking out loud along with you

Thanks adorkable! I have tried to schedule in the past but it always got screwed up with not sleeping when teething or something going on in our schedule but I think she might be old enough that she will do better this time. And thanks for not thinking my question is stupid smile.gif. She gets up between 6 and 7 and needs a nap or sleep after 5 hours. So maybe a nap around 12 and then bed at 8 would work. Now I just have to remember that schedule, haha.
