Hi. I started this thread to discuss special hopes and fears of moms 40+.

I'm 40.  I will be 41 on our due date.  

I'm trying not to read too many articles about the likelihood of miscarriage by age.  I read two last night.

I am also 40. will still be 40 at due date...:) in fact I conceived this babe two weeks after my birthday. yes, reading those articles, statistics, google, it's just awful. First there is the MC rates, then, once we are passed it (fingers crossed, I saw a heartbeat but I know it doesn't mean that much...) there is the chromosomes. fun!...:)

I just decided to stop it all. just take it one day at a time. thanks for starting this thread. This is my third baby-to-be. my other children are 10 and 7.

Hi carmen358 and mymaya.

My midwife says there is absolutely nothing different I have to do at 41 than I during my first pregnancy when I was 35. 

Are you getting any special 40+ advice?

Hi, I am 40 and will turn 41 three weeks after my due date. I was 38 when i had DD and had a completely normal pregnancy and home birth. I have no health issues so my midwife and doctor both say i am considered a low risk pregnancy once again. I'm actually not feeling too worried at all. Hoping for another home birth. Great to meet some other 40+ mamas!

I haven't seen my midwife yet (I'm waiting until the u/s next week). I'm seeing an RE right now though and no, he hasn't said anything about special care. When pregnant with my DD I wasn't treated any different either....I also had a very healthy, happy pregnancy and an amazing home birth!

I am little stressed b/c I feel like this is one of my last chances to have a 2nd child.

I assume the challenge before me is thinking realistically that I am healthy, my first pregnancy was healthy and there's no reason to think this one won't stick.

Are you planning a home birth?

#1 was born at home underwater on her due date.  It was perfect.

I am planning a home birth, yes! My DD was also born at home 4 days early :) I'm very open to whatever happens though....last time too, I didn't want to be rigid and "set" in my birth plans as I know they can change in the blink of an eye.

I'm totally with you on that Carmen. I'm more scared about AFTER the birth when I'll suddenly be raising TWO children instead of one. I am so calm about pregnancy and birthing; why can't i be the same about parenting!!!

Rubyrose, my DD was also born right on her due date! Apparently that's pretty rare. I've never met another person that happened to. Our kids are very prompt!

My daughter was born on her due date as well! August 3rd, 2004!
