It's our first as well and we're so excited! Of course, I'm terrified and paranoid, too. Every little pain I feel, I run to google for answers! I'm really looking forward to a time when all my friends know because several of them have had their first in the last year or two so I'm hoping to get a lot of advice from them. :)

Hi everyone,
How is everyone doing these days? It's 5w3d for me (gosh, that sounds like a motor oil!).
I have my first ultrasound on Monday, and I have to say that I'm eagerly anticipating it to assuage the fears that have been haunting me. I don't know if any of you can relate, but I have this nagging anxiety about the possibility of this pregnancy not sticking. I've tried to talk to DP about it, but it's hard to verbalize it. It almost makes it too real. She's a nurse, so she's very good at taking everything in stride. I'm trying to learn from her, to let go, to breathe through it, and to accept that whatever will be, will be. Really, I have no good reason to carry such fear -- I'm healthy, this is my first pregnancy so no history of m/c, there's no history with my mom or sisters -- but I also know that m/c can happen with no good reason. (See my constant circular reasoning?) Anyway, I just wanted to get that out there, and I would love to hear from anyone who is effectively managing their similar fears, about strategies etc.
Otherwise, I'm still feeling good. Is it terrible to wish for nausea?? My bbs are still sore, less in the morning, more at night. I'm not having a lot of cravings, but I do get some food aversions, especially to sweet stuff. DP made apple pie the other night, which I couldn't touch. :(
How is everyone else doing?
DandyLez, I'm with you on the weird phenomenon of saying "I'm so happy to feel sick!" I threw up just a bit in my mouth this morning and practically wept with joy. I could throw up down the front of my shirt in front of the Queen of England right now, and I'd come up smiling about it.
There are these moments when I can access the peace of letting whatever will be simply be. There are also moments when I want to be knocked out so I don't have to listen to my own incessant warnings about what could happen. Back and forth, back and forth ... I guess this is parenthood in all of its joyful, worrying glory.

I'm right there with you ladies. LOL@GC! "Yes, your majesty, it appears I'm definitely knocked up!"
But yes, it's a true physical sign of pregnancy that I would welcome, too.
I just fell asleep at my desk over lunch. I can doze at my desk from time to time if I've lost sleep but not like this. I slept hard and after a night of decent sleep so I'd say the fatigue is getting to me. But that's still not as real as high-tailing it to the bathroom to hug the toilet. :)
FemmeKnitzi, I'm really tired too - at night.
This is weird, because I normally have the circadian rhythm of a snow owl. I can usually stay up all night, and even when I'm not exhausted, I have trouble awakening in the morning. My whole life has seemed like one epic struggle with an alarm clock. Even as a child, my mom would have to throw cold water on me to get me up for school.
Lo and behold, all of a sudden my internal clock appears to be reset. I'm so tired at night that I feel as if my face is melting, and yet I awaken all by myself in the morning. Anyone else having a big shift like that?

I haven't noticed anything dramatic, because I'm naturally a morning person. But where I would usually snooze my alarm until 7 a.m. I'm now usually up and awake before 6. Part of that is probably because I do my best thinking, brooding and obsessing in the morning so I'm probably using the time to make mental lists in my head. :)

This is my first time. I hope it is a stick-a-roony. Not getting any nausea, just slightly sore boobs and lots of constipation ;-o
and very, very tired....eating lots.
I'm refraining from buying baby things. But my husband and I are making a baby quilt together. It was his idea! He's really good at building, renovating, home diy, car repair building dry stone walls,
blacksmithing, - everything manly - but then he has this other amazing side of loving to bake bread, beekeeping, and he happens to have some quilt making skills he learned in school. So we are making an English Paper Piece hexagon quilt for the little bean. so every night, after a day of work, we sit by the fire and work on our hand sewn quilt.
Keeping it a secret is fun. His mum knows we are making a quilt, but doesn't know it's for a baby. She's an amazing knitter, so when the time is right she'll be told and I'll put in my order!
Has anyone told their secret yet to family? When do you all plan to tell?

Still no nausea for me at 6w1d. About mid-day, I get kind of a queasy stomach where the thought of certain foods makes me feel a bit icky, but once I eat (fruit and cottage cheese does the trick) it usually goes away. My boobs are less sore in the morning, but they're swollen and sore again by bedtime. And the 3pm crash / nap is a daily occurrence too!
I did have an ultrasound this morning. There is definitely just one little critter in there, but Pickle (our pet name) is doing very well. We saw the fluttering heart beat, and s/he is a teensy bit bigger than her age. It was so exciting to see, and reassuring to know that all is going well despite the lack of symptoms. My MIL told me that she didn't feel any nausea during her four (all healthy) pregnancies, so there's nothing to worry about if you don't feel ill, folks!! I was told that nausea is a sign of a sticky bean, but that appears to be a big myth. So enjoy feeling good, everyone!
Babinogi, we told our immediate family and our closest friends already. They all knew we were trying and, because we were working with a fertility clinic, people felt less nosy about asking where we were at in the process. We will probably tell everyone else slowly between 10 and 12 weeks. We're refraining from buying/making things too. It's a bit early for us, still. But we do want to knit something, and I HATE knitting in the summer, so maybe I should start sooner rather than later! :)
Hope you're all doing well!
Edited to add: Even though our midwife gave us an October 2nd EDD, the fertility clinic doc gave us an EDD of September 30! I think I'll stay in this October DDC group though -- I know I won't be on time, and that it will likely be October anyway.

I know I'm not a part of this thread, but I saw it from the main page and just wanted to reiterate this...I never had a moment of nausea with my 3 kiddos!!!

hi:)
This is a first for me as well. I just took a test last Friday so this is a whole new world to me. My first appointment is on the 15th and I cannot wait! I need to know or get my confirmation that I am pregnant and know that everything is ok. It doesn't seem real yet, well it does but it doesn't :) Question for the rest of you here: should I take my husband to my first appointment?

Thanks! What is usually happening at an initial appointment? Were you able to hear a heartbeat?
Well, I just had my very first prenatal appointment last night. I am a just over 6wks and the appointment seemed to be mostly to confirm the pregnancy and to have me and the doc get to know each other a bit- talk about her style and my plans. She also talked a little bit about some of the stuff I need to be doing, not doing, and watching out for- like nitrites in deli meat.
She offered to do an ultrasound, but I knew I didn't want one this early (I read too much and I was concerned about early ultrasound without indication). She scheduled my next appointment for about 11wks and said that they can normally get a heartbeat on a doppler between 10 & 12 weeks.
I had invited my husband, but he wasn't feeling well and knew that he wan't going to get to hear a heartbeat anyway so he skipped this one, but he looking forward to joining me next time. It would not have been awkward for him to have been there, but it also didn't feel like he was really missing out on this one.
Hope I answered your questions. Congratulations!

I don't know. Mine was more of a discharge appointment as we move from the fertility clinic to pre-natal care with midwife. The doc just wanted to make sure everything was okay before sending us on our way. Our first appointment with the midwife isn't until the 28th of Feb.
Hearing the heartbeat will depend on when your first appointment is, and if they're doing an u/s. The heart starts beating at the beginning of 6 weeks - usually. My father-in-law, who's a doc, told me not to worry if I didn't hear one because they can sometimes be a few days late.
