When does the milk dry up?

I nursed my daughter just shy of 3 years, for many months at the end it was only on the right side for a few minutes at nap and bedtime.  I wondered for quite a while if she was even still getting milk or not.  She hadn't nursed on the left side in a very, very long time but asked once (it was painful on that side that is shy we stopped) and I let her.  I noticed a very thick, creamy, white milk - whereas on the side she nursed all the time I wasn't seeing any evidence of milk.  For 4-6 weeks after completely weaning she asked a few times and I always let her latch (on the right) last maybe a minute and again the thick white milk appeared.  This was a few weeks ago and she now has no interest.

So last night we discovered that there is still milk in there - and the left side to boot which she hasn't nursed on in ages.

WHEN will this dry up, I can't even imagine how long it has been since she nursed on that side and yet there it was!

Any advice welcome, thanks!

There is no way of telling.  Some people seem to immediately dry up (or at least not be able to express any) and some people have milk (in drops or more) years or even decades later.  Neither is abnormal or dangerous.
