1/30 Weekly Chat Thread

Wanted to start a new thread for this week.  I hope that it is starting off well for everyone.

I received my first baby related gifts. It was my 30th on Friday and my sister got me a Moby Wrap and my friend got me super comfy pajamas, with a nursing top, and a gender neutral baby outfit along with a really sweet card about becoming a mom, it made me tear up.

Beyond that, still struggling with m/s and slogging through these crazy long days. One more month to go of 55 hour weeks.  I'm so excited for the next four weeks to pass...the end of busy season and the end of the first trimester! I sort of wish I could just sleep through it.

Thanks for the thread Veritas.

I actually got a preggy lady gift today too. It was a really nice surprise from one of my great girlfriends - she sent me the pregnancy essentials kit from mama mio. There is boob tube, tummy rub and lucky legs in the set. I used it first thing after work and I'm in love.

She has NO idea how wonderful it made me feel since my nausea is also back in full force. Today I actually vomited at work. So far - vomiting had been reserved for at night - but not today. Sexy, hunh? I also have a runny nose problem. I have to blow my nose 24/7 - it just runs. Annoying.

I also have this new pressure in my pelvis that makes pretty much ALL movement and sitting uncomy,

But other than all those symptoms - I am pretty thankful to be preggers, to have made it this far and to be 13 weeks in. I can't wait to feel some real kicks - flutter are cool but I don't really feel them all day every day. Soon, I hope.

Love being able to share with you ladies. You keep me sane!!!

Thanks for the reminder! Time for a new spotlight thread! My husband is out of town for a week, so that's my excuse for forgetting about new week, new threads. orngbiggrin.gif

We chose our midwives this week!  After meeting with a few groups of WONDERFUL women, our decision came down to the ladies who we felt a real connection with.  We know that we would have had excellent care with any of them (the homebirthing community here in Humboldt County, Ca is fabulous), but these two particular gals felt like old friends!  We are so thrilled to have women become a part of our family through this journey.  It will be my first homebirth!  Heard the heartbeat last week at 10 weeks 4 days, and I'm feeling like I'm rounding the bend into that very welcomed 2nd trimester burst of energy.  I still feel like I hit the wall in the afternoons, but I've been eating well, (only minor aversions), and walking 2 miles every day.  It feels good to know that I'm doing something to remain active!  I'm hoping to take a yoga class a few times a week.  And also go swimming!  I got a free pass to the community pool- just for being pregnant :)  I'm staring to look a little pregnant.  My belly is just starting to pop out, and that feels good cause I've just felt kinda frumpy and chubby.  Can't wait to bliss out on a big round belly!  Hope this finds you all enjoying your week so far!

that's exciting sheaffer!

ugh - I had to ask for Zofran today. This is NOT a shining moment for me. But I'm truly over this nausea - I really can't take it any longer.

Thebs, sorry your are feeling crummy!

That's so fun y'all got presents. I want presents!!! Since I have had a previous miscarriage, it seems that everyone likes to pretend I am not pg for a long time.

I am having really bad migraines. I read on another thread that there could be a hormonal shift going on (something about the placenta taking over??? what is that???) and it could cause headaches. Well it is not fun with my toddling girl. I feel like all we do is watch PBS duh.gif.

I will be 12 weeks this week, and am excited about that.

Oh yes, I have heard it is pretty common to get headaches around 12 or so weeks when the placenta really starts taking over. Hopefully they go away soon.

Thebyr, I am glad you're trying the Zofran. You need to be able to function!

dovemama, I had horrible headaches all last week (week 12).  They lasted pretty much the whole week and then magically went away.  I'm speculating it's due to placental takeover or increased blood volume, but really who knows.  Hopefully you get some relief in week 13 like I did.  I'm like a bouncing trampoline of energy over here.  Contrast that to last week when I was curled up in bed in the dark because everything made my head explode.  I had scarves draped over my lamps because I was so light sensitive.  Totally safe, right?  eyesroll.gif

Thebyr, I understand how you feel about getting the Zofran script.  I felt like I had failed as a pregnant woman for needing it, but honestly, it makes such a big difference, especially when I have so much to do.  One warning though, Zofran does cause constipation (like we need to be MORE constipated) so I would recommend also taking a stool softener.  I generally try to only take 1 Zofran per day, which means I start feeling yucky again by nighttime and throw up all night and morning, but I've experienced being constipated and I'm terrified of that happening again.  Also, I don't take mine on Sunday (my only day off during busy season) and even though this means I'm floored for the day, I just do NOT want to experience such bad constipation again.  This way it is sort of annoying (the constipation, I guess the puking too), but not painful.  Sorry you're experiencing such bad m/s. hug2.gif

That stinks that something that helps you to function also gives you constipation. I hope the MS clears up soon for you ladies.

I'm not taking Zofran and still suffering from constipation. lol I empathize with those that are dealing....

i haven't been around much the past few days, so many things going on in my life. I think I may announce to my family soon... I think when I do that I'll also announce on facebook so I can revel in the love from my friends. :)

Me too. I want presents and cake.. someone please bring me some cake. The American stuff.. not this Swiss stuff :)

We don't really get gifts beforehand. I guess it's only an america thing. I think a friend might be sending me a congratulations card though as she asked for my address. I only got them with my first, after that no one sent any.

I put on weight when I lived in Germany because of all the coffee and cakes. We baked 2 cakes every single week. Some were a bit too much hassle though, taking the core out of apples and putting in marzipan? No that was just a bit wierd. There was a really nice Capucinotorte though, almonds instead of flour and coffee flavoured cream with chocolate sprinkles. However on the whole I found german cakes lacking in the chocolate side of things, apart from Black Forest Gateaux I guess.

I've been feeling increasingly sickly this week for some reason, more indegestion and no feeling 100% in the evening.

We picked up a new (to us) dishwasher at a house sale last week. I was hoping to pick up a newer washing machine with a higher capacity, but theirs was just as old as ours. However this dishwasher is newer and the top tray rolls in and out without falling off the rails. So that's quite exciting (or as exciting as life gets here). This is my first time with a dishwasher so I am absolutly loving it, such luxury.

I hope you're not getting sick fazer6 I felt so great all weekend and then got hit with DS daycare cold/flu and haven't wanted to move since :(

I think it's just pregnancy related as I feel fine during the day, but towards the afternoon and evening I just feel a bit sick. Not loads and not enough to run to the bathroom, just general annoying nausea. Thankfully we don't get so sick here yet, not in daycare and warm days. Oh and the oranges. I picked up 4kg for like 2€. We don't eat mandarins and oranges back in the UK anymore as they're so tasteless. I can't believe how good, and cheap the fruit is here. The huge strawberrys have already started at the market, I have to wait for them to get down from about 4€(yes 4€)/kg to 2€. Hmmmm, and then it's cherry season, and then plums and grapes. Because the Romanians behind us have disappeared we're going to go in and steal a vine. There are about 3/4 old mature vines with huge trunks, and 4/5 younger ones. I'm going to rob a younger one. The landlord probably wouldn't care, and I forgot to do it last year before the Romanians appeared. I want grapes and loads of them this year. Hopefully when the frosts stop at night we'll get round to buying fruit trees and maybe a few almonds too. This has got to be the only rural spanish property without a single fruit tree. Not even a vine.

Hope you all get better soon. Maybe he'll have got all these things out the way and have such a robust immune system that next year he'll not get a thing while you're juggling the twins. Did you see the piccie I put on my wall? Didn't want to tag you incase not everyone knows!

I heard the heartbeat on Monday, so I just did the fb announcement by posting pictures of my belly. It was awesome. Nobody knew I was pregnant and then all of a sudden there are pictures of my belly. :) I've gotten more "what? you're pregnant? did i miss something?" than anything. LOL.

Sallyrae, congrats on announcing!  We have our 13 week u/s tomorrow, so I'll probably throw something up then.

Fazer, I felt really gross, especially in the evening, at 12 weeks.  I'm still dealing with a tiny bit of nausea at week 13, but it's definitely improved.  It's weird that there's that little bump where you feel worse that week.  I'm interested in knowing why, but I'm sure it's just placental-takeover hormonal craziness.

Demeter, good luck with the announcement!  I really hope the response is better than you're expecting, but at least you'll have excited friends.

Today has SUCKED. First off, I am a single parent this week as my husband is out of town. For the most part that's been okay, because Cecilia is awesome and wonderful and is fine with playing independently part of the day. It does, however, mean that I don't really get a break at all unless she's sleeping.

So, in 2010 when I was in labor with Cecilia, my blood pressure went through the roof. After labor, it wouldn't come down on its own. I've been on bp meds since then. Normally, my bp with meds sits right about at 110-115 over 70-75. Well, this morning at Target, my bp took a serious dip. I got lightheaded and dizzy and my lips started tingling. My mom was THANKFULLY with me and she said that all the color left my face, including my lips. We abandoned our carts and she followed me home. I took my bp and it was really, really low. It took about an hour and a half but finally stabilized back to normal, with a little help from some caffeine.

Then Cecilia refused to nap, and trying to get her down gave me a raging headache. Said headache is still present at 4:30 pm and doesn't seem inclined to budge at all. Can it be bedtime, please?

Ugh, I hate when J is gone too.  He was gone for about four days for a funeral I couldn't go to, and it was horrible.  Elsa drove me nuts the whole time.  J's not the biggest help when he's home, mostly just keeping her from killing herself and if he's eating he'll feed her but when I'm home I do all the changing and bathing and putting to bed and whatnot.  I still missed having him around just as a backup.  What's funny is that he was gone for ten days when Elsa was only about five months old and it was actually wonderful.  We lounged around, I watched my shows, nothing got messy.  I guess that's the difference between an infant and a two year old!
