Looking for Indiana Homeschooling Information

Thread Starter

We are about to move into our second homeschooling adventure, but this time we are in a new state and I am having a horrible time finding clear information about homeschooling in Indiana. I would love to chat with anyone that can help me!

Indiana appears to be a green state.

No reporting necessary.

“A school that is nonpublic, non-accredited, and not otherwise
approved by the Indiana State Board of Education is not bound by
any requirements set forth in IC 20 or IC 21 with regard to
curriculum or the content of educational programs offered by the
school.” (§ 20-33-2-12 (a))

THIS IS WHAT APPLIES TO YOU

5. Although the child must be “provided with instruction equivalent to that given in public schools”
(§ 20-33-2-28), the State Board of Education is  not given the authority  to define “equivalent
instruction” nor to approve home schools. Furthermore, § 20-33-2-12(a) has removed all subject
requirements, leaving home schools without any mandatory subjects

There's no real requirement here (I'm also in Indiana). The law says you have to be able to provide attendance records IF the superintendent of your district asks, but they do not have to be detailed in any way. Circling the dates on a calendar when you do any form of schooling for any length of time would be sufficient. And no one ever asks anyway.

Theres a link on the DOE website for completely voluntary registration as a Homeschooler's, but there's no benefit to registering and o penalty for not doing so.

We're also in Indiana. I keep a calander that shows what we do each day, and note if anyone is sick. That's my attendance record, and also a simplified outline of what we've accomplished. I really don't keep any other records, although I did register at the DOE site.

With the new voucher rules, there was something that benefitted homeschoolers, as well. A tax deduction for your homeschooling expenses. I don't have full details yet, as we haven't finished our taxes, but it looks promising.
