Hello Ladies,
I moved to Everett, WA from a very VERY alternative community, and I'm wondering where my people are. I know you're here, I'm just having a hard time knowing where to go/look. Anyone live here?Â
Â
XOXO

I was raised in old town Mukilteo. There are some alternative communities still kicking around Everett but... not as easy to find.

Bellingham has a ton to offer if you are up for the drive!

Good luck to you.Â
I'm in S. Everett. Moved here from Missoula. If you like yoga, I go to Laughing Buddha in Bothell/Mill Creek. You will find a wonderful alternative and spiritual community there. I also attend meetups with North End Moms. Very open/inviting group of moms there... it has taken some time and I have found some community but definitely not as easy to find as back home. :) Good luck!
I suppose it depends on what you mean by alternative. Disregard any of the following suggestions which aren't in your alternative. :)
Â
For crunchy hippie types: the sno-isle food co-op as a previous poster suggested, Firewheel Books and Beans, or Zippy's Cafe.
Â
For pagan spirituality: Everett Pagan Meetup, or Vision Quest Education Center and Bookstore.
Â
For artsy types:Â 3231 Creatives, or Schack Art Center (Run by the Arts Council of Snohomish County, so it's much larger). Both have exhibits and very reasonably priced classes.
Â
For places to meet other parents: Attachment Parenting International of Snohomish County (Meets in Everett I believe, but I think you have to be a member.)
Â
For reenactors: Society for Creative Anachronism: Everett is in the Barrony of Aquaterra in the Kingdom of An Tir. (This barrony has very active mailing lists; a monthly social meeting; a monthly knitting night; and active cooking, costuming/sewing, archery, and heavy weapons groups.) There are also Empire of Medieval Pursuits chapters in Bothell and Seattle.
Â
For permaculture/wilderness stuff: Alderleaf Wilderness College or Wolf Journey Programs
Â
For open source geekery: Everett Linux User Group
Â
For gamer geekery: AFK Tavern (yes kids are welcome when accompanied by an adult.)
Â
I've kept most of my recommendations within the city of Everett. If you're willing to travel farther there are more options. If none of these groups are your cup of tea then I highly recommend you search google or meetup.com for regional groups that fit your interests. There are a lot of active groups in the puget sound.
The Snohomish County API group is pretty awesome. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/apiofsnohomishcounty/
Â
And, any of the LLL meetings will get you started.Â

Just wanted to let you know that although Snohomish Co API is no longer meeting, we have reformed as a more casually-run community of families. You can find us on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/APfamilies. Hope to see you there!
Â
Also, the Everett AM LLL group is a very active and fun group. :)
