Umbilical Cords

Some friends and I were talking about cord cutting, lotus births, cord burning, etc.  tonight at my birthday dinner.  I am feeling much better, BTW.

Reminded me of this neat article a journalist wrote about how we do cord burning in Bali at the birth center where I volunteer. This is my friends' babe in the pictures that I caught in the water the night before.  I went in just to introduce my girls to the newest one and ended up being interviewed.  haha.  The mama, Sari and I have been pregnant all three times together and this is the second birth of hers I have gotten to attend.  Her hubby, Pagi works at the clinic.  You can see my hands with the band my hubby gave me when we were dating.  I thought you all may want to read about it.

the parents stop burning when the cord is severed.

in bali, the placenta is prepared with herbs and oil by the father.  he takes this job seriously.  then, it is blessed and buried in front of the front door to the family's home.  when the babe is crying and having a hard time, the family will take the babe to where it's placenta is buried to reunite them.  they consider it one of the 4 spiritual brothers, like a twin almost.
