I would like to have a home birth with a midwife in attendance. Does being a bit overweight disqualify you from midwives doing a home birth for you? I'm not obese. My BMI falls in the overweight range.
I'm a single mom by choice, so I plan on having a midwife, her assistant, and a doula at my birth. I have a 2.5 year old son who will be 3.5 at the time of the baby's birth. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do for my son during the birth? I want him to be present at the birth. I don't know if he'll be scared or not. I don't know if I hire a doula if she can also help take care of my son or just me. I don't know that I'd feel comfortable having family such as my mom at the birth as she is not comfortable with a home birth. I don't know if I need somebody on-call that could come up and taken my son to the park or to their house to play for a bit if needed. Any suggestions on how to work a home birth with a 3.5 year old would be great. I live in a rural community, so having birth people around is not something we have plenty of. My midwife will be coming 2 1/2 hours to me, and my doula at least an hour.
