Ear pain in 8 yo

I am not experienced with ear infections- ds has had one... he was up half the night in lot s of pain. Now wet stuff is coming out of his ear but it still hurts.  I am not one to rush off to the dr.  I think the wet stuff coming out is a good sign right?  What do I do tho for it?  I do not have oil drops right now- xh might.  is there an alternative?

If there is stuff coming out, then I wonder if the ear drum could be ruptured. Maybe google that and see if it sounds accurate. That doesn't necessarily make it an emergency or anything, but personally if an ear drum ruptures, I do take them into the doctor. I don't for a mild ear infection.

Maybe others will weigh in too!

There is no tissue present it just feels like fluid. and not thick fluid either he is feeling much better.
