I found this to be one of the most helpful books i read....

Not a book recommendation as such, but I found this interesting blog post about why one mother changed her mind about vaccination, and it links to the books she said were partly responsible for her change of mind:

http://momswhovax.blogspot.com/2011/11/from-anti-vax-to-pro-vax-one-moms-story.html

The books are below (I've not read them so this is not a personal recommendation).

The Panic Virus, by Seth Mnookin

Deadly Choices: How the Anti-Vaccination Movement Threatens Us All, by Paul Offit.

The momswhovax blog deeply saddened me.

The mother vaccinated her baby, he got whooping cough anyway, and was later diagnosed with autism. May or may not be related to the vaccines he did receive, but nobody can know for sure.

Mom decided to stop vaccinating, and worked naturally with her child to help heal his symptoms.

Mom accidentally gives baby #2 strep B from delivery, and baby needs antibiotics. From this scare, she decides that if antibiotics are helpful, then so are vaccines!  Out of fear, she decides to resume vaccinating.

Then, the mom claims that all the natural healing methods she had used to heal her son were like "throwing money down the drain." This makes no sense to me. It appears the methods DID help her son. I don't understand this lady. She calls herself arrogant for believing the treatments helped her son. So I guess it's arrogant to try to cure illnesses the natural way?!?!? How insulting. To top it all off, she agrees with Paul Offit. Ugh!

People claim that parents who do not vaccinate do so out of fear. In my opinion, this mother decided to vaccinate out of fear. Not everyone who vaccinates do so out of fear, but it sounds like this mother did! This mother, who thinks she can "debate circles around any anti-vaxxer."

This is the second article I've read of yours, and the second time I wish I hadn't. I will not be reading any more opinion pieces for a long while! Not good for the blood pressure lol.

Oh and the Paul Offit book--yes, the anti-vaccination movement IS a threat--a threat to his bank account!

BeckyBird,

I agree with you totally and am biting my tongue really hard...

...but I think we should leave this thread neutral and just post book titles and info. I don't think there should be blogs or sites posted either, there could be another thread made for that.

Beckybird, I agree with you and slmommy.  Very disturbing, but we need to leave the arguments out of this thread and just post book titles and info.

One thing that might be helpful is to look up the authors of the books and the blogs, and see if there is any undisclosed conflict of interest.

i also agree....another reason we need a faq page...could have a blog thread on it where people can post blogs of different views, whether opinion or scientific.

I sorry I upset you with my blog link. I thought it was an interesting story about a Mum who started having reasonable doubts about her anti-vaccination beliefs, read some books which lay out the pro-vaccination arguments and they changed her mind.  Interesting how different people can read the same article and have such different reactions. I posted it here as the blog post itself had book recommendations, but I apologise if it was inappropriate.
