3 yo with fever and complaining of ear ache - Natural advice please!

My 3 yo DS has a fever and is complaining of having pain in both his ears.  Prior to this we've all had a cold for well over a week.  I know he has had the congestion to breed an ear infection.  I don't want to take him to the ped because I know he will order an anti-biotic, which I dont believe he needs.  Stats are that 80% of ear infections clear up on their own.  So my question is, what do you do for your LO's when they have an ear infection??? I am giving tylenol for pain and fever and putting drops of olive oil in ears.  Is there anything else I should be doing?

Crush a raw garlic clove and let it infuse into the warmed olive oil. The garlic is antimicrobial.
