Weight loss and misery in February! - Page 6

Chelsea, I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. That sounds really strange. Let us know how you're doing.

Lifeguard, that's such an awesome loss! Good for you.

I got a new workout in the mail today to cycle in with my 30 Day Shred, and it was actually harder and more fun, so I may put off the Shred for a little bit, because it's boringish. I also got my new scale, and I haven't really lost any weight (about 2 lbs) in this whole month! Ah, well, I'm in much better shape.

Thinking about food, I've been making a huge effort to do more veggies and fruit. I used to just eat them at dinner (and a lot of them!) When I cook for myself I do stuff like substitute pasta with sloooow cooked cut green beans with sauce mixed in. This is yummy. I just use thawed green beans, so it's easy. My husband thinks of this as a side dish, which it can also be. I also use frozen green peas to replace rice and other grains for many things. Just thawed they are great, with salt and olive oil they are yummy, and the best is to sautee some garlic in olive oil (a good amount) and before the garlic browns at all, toss the peas in and stir, then let them cook stirring once or twice for 5 minutes. This is delicious. Add salt to taste during cooking. I rely on frozen veggies a lot because they are just as healthy if not more so at this time of year.

Thanks Rosemary! I started to feel a little better last night, and had a bowl of chili for dinner. It didn't taste great, but I knew that I had to eat something since I had hardly eaten at all. TMI, but I got my period early this morning, so I wonder if that had anything to do with me feeling crappy all day. Who knows.

I really need to eat more veggies and fruit. I kind of hate veggies, so that's a struggle. I do love spaghetti squash, but hate making it. For some reason when I make it it doesn't turn out like I want it to.

I was going to get on the scale to see if I had lost anything, but since my period started I think i will wait till it's over to weigh myself.

Aaaaannnnnnnddddddd, I just ate some Girl Scout cookies. Ugh!!! So mad at myself. I was doing so well. I cannot let that little slip get me out of eating healthy. I can't.

chelsea - sorry about your period - ugh. Move on from the cookies - they do not have to undo you.

afm - finally some progress! I've been reading books on body image & of course, the food addiction - nothing amazing but keeping the issue to the front of my mind is helpful. I have been really staying the course except for a brownie yesterday (yeah - only 1 brownie!). I met with my gym owner yesterday to write up a new training plan & that went very well.

Sooo, I found my wedding dress yesterday in a fabric bin & thought I'd try it on & it actually fit! Here's the funny thing, I had lost quite a bit before my wedding & felt really good about my body at the time but now at close to the same size I am verrrry dissatisfied with it - weird how much perception can change. Anyway I also tried on my goal jeans & they can be done up (but not worn in public), so I decided to redo my measurements (last time was end of Oct.) & although my weight has barely changed I have lost 11 inches! I guess things just needed some more time to readjust pp.

As for weight - I'm down 10lbs this week (I know that is a ridiculous number) but that sadly only brings me back to my lowest pp weight so I guess you can say I'm even now.

Ugh.  Weighed at the doctors office and weighed two pounds more than I did at four months pregnant.  Granted I was still below my pp weight due to hyperemesis, but still.  It made me grumpy.  I'm getting a jogging stroller this weekend.  Any suggestions?

Okay, Lifeguard, this is INCREDIBLE. I read this a while ago and missed a chance to respond to your amazing news. Woo hoo!!! You're doing it.

Livacreature, I hear Bob strollers are good for jogging but I'm not a jogger. Maybe Amy May has ideas. It's nice to have one that you can lock the wheel for jogging and then unlock for other purposes. But if you're only going to use it for jogging, the locked wheel is what's important I hear. Also, I'd think it would need to be very sturdy, not tippy. My 3 wheel Valco Baby is pretty tippy (but that's with my 4 year old in it!)

But Lifeguard, WHYYYY was your WEDDING DRESS in a fabric bin???

Thanks Rosemary.

My wedding dress was home made 'cause I couldn't face dress shopping while fat. Sad but true story. So the dress was nothing fabulous & then the train got torn at some point during the day. I have the extra material from my bridesmaids' skirts so I was going to (one day!) cut the whole mess of stuff up & make a quilt.

Aw, that would be great to make a quilt out of it. Then you could actually use it. I get it now.

I've lost 3 lbs all at once! doing master your metabolism (jillian michaels). It's a pretty enlightening look at hormones. scale's been stuck for 2 months, and after 1 day, dropped 3. so cool. i haven't changed my eating much, but have gotten rid of synthetics, plastics, and embraced more organics. it's an unconventional "diet" and not what i expected from HER but it really works.

That's interesting Rosemary. I think we tend to overlook hormones a lot.

Rosemary, that's great! Maybe I will look into that Jillian Michaels book. I've heard of it and thought about getting it.

AFM, once again, I'm doing terribly. Truly just eating whatever I want. I feel gross and SO out of shape, yet that doesn't motivate me at all to change. I am really stuck in a rut with my eating. Clothes aren't fitting me right and they look terrible on me these days. I know that I'm gaining. I guess my issue is that I don't know what I want to do. I am torn between so many different ways of eating. Low calorie, low carb, no sugar/wheat, vegetarian, vegan, etc. I guess that in a perfect world I would be vegan. I truly believe that vegan is the healthiest way to eat. I was vegan a few years ago for a few months. It's just so hard to stick to. Plus, I'm so picky about veggies that it's sort of hard to do. I so want to be someone who eats super healthy, i don't know why I'm putting up the fight of my life about doing it. This just sucks.

chelsea - it's hard. I feel I know what is best for my body but I constantly block my own success. For me I think there is an addictive quality to it & the 'bad' food is just so damn accessible & cheap. Dh just had me listen to an interview with a woman about her book "The Vegetarian Myth" - very interesting the things she had to say about it. I learned a lot. I've never been a vegetarian myself but I still found it interesting. She was a hard core vegan for 20 years before she changed her eating dramatically.

Tania- Losing weight is hands down the hardest thing I've ever done. Just getting into the right mindset can take me months. It's a constant battle of the mind. I would give so much to be one of those people who is just naturally thin and doesn't value/love food like I do. I said I would start eating healthy yesterday......yeah, that didn't happen. But, I am making a list and menu for the week right now, and plan to start a little today and jump full force into it tomorrow. I'm such a picky eater, that it's hard for me to find recipes that sound good. But, I'm trying. I got on the scale this morning, and I've gained even more weight. I'm so damn mad at myself. I have to stop this.

I had nightmares last night thanks to the guilt I am holding over all the junk we are eating.
