Solo Play

... My baby is all grown up.

We have a new house with a cute front and back yard and at the back we have sliding doors. The weather has changed and it's been gorgeous and sunny (but cold), so I pop him on the floor in front of the doors while I do things like the dishes or get my breakfast. ... And he's fine. And happy. And will be there for more than half an hour, no problem. And I picked him up to snuggle and he fussed until I put him back down. So now if he's not wanting snuggles, food or a nap, he's on the floor playing by himself. So happily.

I love it, but it's weird and I miss the snuggles.  And the excuse to avoid housework ;)

He's usually farther from the door and on a blanket ;)

looks gorgeous there!!!  ENJOY - he'll be clingy again before you know it - some day you may be longing for a moment where you're not hearing "mumma, mumma, uppy, uppy"

My  son loves to sit at the slider as well and watch the dog chase the birds in the back yard or simply just watch the dog sitting at the slider begging to come in or just the birds scurrying about.

I like that he enjoys independent play for a bit because I know that his mind is growing and he is becoming a little thinker.  I do miss the large amount of hours of snuggling but we still get plenty of that and yes now it means I have to do more housework too....Sigh!

Um, I am impatiently waiting until Ada will play by herself.  We're still at the "it's still almost impossible for mom to get a shower" stage!  She'll do 5-10 minutes of play by herself and that is IT.  But Becky, that is an ADORABLE picture.

We certainly started with that. We kind of trained him for this ;) If he was happy and looking at things, he got put down. At first it wasn't for long, but as he got better and better at moving, he lasts for a long time. If he's at all displeased we snatch him up and get him happy, so it's never a punishment type thing. He's actually now learned to slide off my lap and then he's down. He likes it. Good luck :)
