"I can't"

DD is 2.5 and has been saying "I can't" so much lately.  I don't know if she picked it up from her cousins or what.  Everything she is saying "I can't" about are things she CAN do such as eat pasta with a fork, get on the bed, wipe her bottom after going potty, putting shoes on and taking off, etc.  Not sure how to best deal with this, I tell her she can, encourage her to try, etc.

Anyone BTDT?  How to best respond?

I immediately looked to your signature to see if you were pregnant or had a new baby. It's common for kids to regress when there's the stress of a new baby or impending birth. I would indulge her *when practical* (ie don't knock yourself out) and she'll probably get past it. She might just need to be babied a bit to feel secure.

My DS is so there! His regression has more to do with potty learning then any new siblings as his baby bro is 9 months old already! It's annoying. we encourage him to do it on his own and make sure we play like hes a baby - that seems to help.

Interesting.  I am expecting and she really enjoys talking about being a big sister.  She also recently started using the potty of her own accord.  Lots of changes happening and coming.  Thanks for the feedback. winky.gif

Things that are exciting are often also stressful.

Thanks, mamas!  I guess I have been preparing mentally for the stress of the babies when they are born, but didn't think about the stress NOW.  Makes sense with the pottying too. Thank you.
