Is it normal for boys to occasionally pee on floor by toilet?

DS is 3.5, completely potty trained, but sometimes he urinates on the floor next to the toilet and twice in the garbage can next to toilet.  I know he is purposely doing this, because he clearly knows what hes supposed to do.

Is this a normal behavior for a young boy to try?  It's really getting on my last nerve, I've corrected him each time and told him we dont do that, he fully understands, says he wont do it again, and yet, i feel like im cleaning the bathroom everyday.

Any advice?

Oh I feel your pain! I have three boys! I clean the bathroom multiple times a day.

I think they ( please don't take offense, this is my boys I am speaking of! ) get lazy or distracted, and turn away from the potty too fast..they are always in such a hurry to leave the bathroom and do something else!

Your guy is still little enough that you may want to do a week or so of some Tinkle Targets, just to reinforce the proper "aim" behavior!

no offense taken at all!  my son definitely gets lazy or rushed and so leaves the toilet a bit early sometimes.  but these instances that i described were definitely intentional and with purpose.  i guess the only benefit of the doubt i can give him is he's experimenting or having "fun", but i would just assume that when he starts to feel the urine on his leg and feet(happened 2 nights ago) he would just get it back in the toilet because he didnt want to get wet?? but he just continued until he was finished.  so that really bothers me.  

i will be trying the target practice though-i think that will give him something to focus on!

My DS is 3.5 and fully trained and sometimes does the same thing. Although sometimes it's just a bit, because he really does get distracted or sleepy, and at that time I usually just clean it and move on. Other times, I have seen him almost as if he's trying to make pee touch every part of the toilet (seriously?) or he tries to get it on top of the toilet or on the shower curtain.

Have you tried making him clean it? Especially if he gets it on himself or his clothes, I make him get clean, and then change his clothes, and then wipe down the toilet, floor, and whatever else he got it on. Not in a cruel way, just in a realistic, "If you'd like to pee all over the bathroom, you'll have to be the one to clean it" sort of way. It's amazing how little DS does this now that he is responsible for cleaning the mess....

yep mine do it too.  I have 3 boys aging 3.5-nearly 7 and all 3 of them pee on the floor!  I think it is an accident with the oldest 2 but the youngest will pee in odd things.  Cups/buckets/cans/etc.  I went in the other day and there was literally a puddle of pee on my floor.

Honestly - I think it is just fun for them. I don't think they understand at all that it is unsanitary or nasty. If I had a penis I think peeing would be a lot more entertaining!

haha lifeguard, good point!  i too think he is just having fun, and it goes in spurts, when i posted this, it seemed like he was doing it like 10 times that day or something!  but oh well, boys will be boys....thanks for all the replies!

Um....yes!

Sorry, not laughing at you....!  Totally normal.  My son peed in my brand new dryer once...that was interesting.  I could tell many stories about my 2 sons and their underpants...it was always something.  Pooping in them at a playplace and leaving them up in the tube, peeing them and leaving them behind someone else's toilet....Many, many...um...skidmarks..

I think it is normal for men to occasionally pee on the floor. I've had male roommates and was happy if they didn't poop in the tub (this actually was an issue with one guy, practically sleep pooping). I think it is just a thing. Some men are meant to live in the woods and it is their way of paying us back for making them play house.
