progesterone at 9 weeks

Thread Starter

Hi ladies,

I am looking for input from experienced ones, who have had progesterone tests in the first trimester- I am currently 9 weeks, and my progesterone came back yesterday (first time tested) at 20.6 . Does this seem like an OK level? shall I supplement? I had an ultrasound yesterday (at 9 weeks) and all was well- baby right on track with a strong heartbeat. I have been spotting on and off since 5 weeks, but was also diagnosed with a small uterine bleed that is resolving itself.

I am 40, and this is my third pregnancy.

what would you do?

Thanks so much,

mymaya.

Here is a chart from the awesome Dr. Alan Beer-

If it were me, if I was really concerned, I'd probably take this (which is actually what I'm taking now, but if I weren't, and felt concerned later on, I'd likely go with this over a Rx progesterone).

Also, something I've always wondered...since the placenta begins taking over the progesterone production around 9ish weeks (though IMO it's not really safe to say that it has completely taken over until about 13-14 weeks), I wonder if levels drop slightly at that point while the body is "switching".  That might be considered a silly way to look at it, but it's something I've wondered.

I was told anything 20 or above is fine. So, you are in good shape.
