Bras

Ok, anyone know anything about where to find good nursing bras?  I have two Bravado ones but they are fairly heavy duty and basic.  They're built like sports bras so the middle is visible when I wear anything lower cut than a tshirt, and the straps peek out all the time.  I want something a little nicer that I can wear with lower cut shirts.  But I'm fairly large (42DD/E) and I don't like underwires.

Who loves their bras and where do you get them?

Medela makes some, and our BrUs usually has a few in stock.  Not sure how "fancy" they will be, but you could also Amazon search "nursing bras" and see what pops up.  Good luck!

I have Bravado bras that have lasted me wonderfully from when I first got them in '09. They're the Body Silk style. I actually was thinking about getting some new ones, but really, they're still in amazing shape.

How did you size them to buy online, Aimee?  I have never purchased their bras but could really use some good nursing bras.  Thing is, I'm not totally sure what size I am these days...it's been *that* long since I've purchased bras sadly!  Do they have guidance online for good measurement?

The Bravado Bodysilk bras come in S, M, L and XL, and each one covers a range of bra sizes. So given that my breasts are big, I just automatically assumed I'd wear an XL, and it worked for me. I think maybe taking basic measurements would be a good idea-- measure under your breasts for band size and then over the fullest part for your cup size (it's fullest measurement-band size measurement, where 1" difference=A cup, 2"=B cup and so on). Even if you can only estimate, that should be enough for the Bodysilk bras.

I'm quite large (30g) and can't be without underwires, I have not found a non underwired bra that actually supports me. But I live in a hot place so I have to have my boobs separate. I absolutly would hate them to be touching the skin underneath on my body, or touching each other. I really need support or I would sweat in summer. So after trying on loads of nursing bras, and finding out I'm a 30 not 32 so virtually no nursing bras are even made in my band size let along cup size (I think there are about 3 or 4 options for me) I gave in. I bought normal bras that I liked, and bought the nursing clips separatly to convert a bra to a nursing bra. If you do end up struggling to find a bra that fits, or find a good bra reduced (is it just me or are nursing bras really expensive) then bear in mind you can buy the clips to convert a normal bra for hardly any money.

Also don't listen to 'people' who say you can buy your bras at 36 weeks, buy a nursing bra when the baby is a weekor two old. Your boobs can really change in those first few weeks.

Ninetales, I sometimes see Hotmilk and another pretty nursing bra brand (name escapes me at the moment) on deal sites like zulily. Most of the ones I've seen are non-underwire and come in larger cup sizes.

I was a 36H pre-pregnancy and I'm pretty terrified about finding affordable nursing bras/tanks in my size. Most companies seem to stop at G/H and I know I'm going to surpass that so my options will be limited. I think a hospital nearby has a specialty shop that does fittings for nursing bras (& post-mastectomy) so I may plan to make an outing there ones my boobs settle in to get fitted and see what options they have. My sister is sending some nursing tanks that should work for at home immediately postpartum. I do need to get something better for during pregnancy as I'm wearing one that doesn't really fit.

Ninetales, I went to Motherhood Maternity and they had lots of different styles and all looked very comfortable.   When asked the salesperson they told me to wait until about 4 weeks before I am due to buy.  A friend also said to wait to buy.  Problem is I am falling out of my bras so I am mostly trying to wear sportbras, one of which doesn't even fit anymore.

I wonder if that applies to non-first timers.  I've been nursing my daughter up to now so I would hope they wouldn't get much bigger!  dizzy.gif

I dunno, I bought my Bodysilk bras at about 4 months pregnant with Cece and I've been wearing them ever since...

Do you like the Bodysilk?  I've been thinking about that one if I can't find something in person for cheaper.  I have two of the Original, and I like them enough, but once I got it in my size there is no plunge in the middle.  That's fine if I'm wearing a t-shirt but I can't wear anything with any kind of deeper cut.  Is the Bodysilk the same way?  I was disappointed that they didn't say the bigger size was cut differently.

I find the Bodysilk to be cut well enough for me to wear pretty much any neckline, and I tend to wear V-neck, open, scoop necked, etc. shirts that make it easy to bring my breasts out of the top for nursing. I'm wearing one here, which shows a lot of cleavage. blush.gif

Nice to know about the Bravados! I just went into Motherhood Maternity last weekend and felt overwhelmed. Lately I have been wearing a sports bra that I got off amazon called "Moving Comfort" Owww. My boobies hurt greensad.gif

Ah, thanks, Aimee!  Your picture helps a lot.  You look similarly sized to me, so I bet that brad would work well for me too.  :)

LOL, thank you! She was about 9 months old there. She's almost 2 now, my big girl!

For pregnancy I am loving Coobie bras - they come in two sizes - one size and plus one size - so they probably won't help ladies with especially generous figures, but I am shocked at how well they support my 36 B (pre-pregnancy) C (now) and even maybe D with milk boobs. I love that I don't have to change sizes as my boobs change, and they are comfy enough to sleep in when I'm extra sore...

They have front strap clips so I might keep using them for nursing, but I will probably have to fish around the back for the strap unless I rig up a ribbon solution or something.
