Nope, not a planned one.  We did have an unplanned UC with my last child.  She was breech and it was a wonderful and smooth delivery, I just feel more comfortable having a midwife there.  I've read tons, but I know there are things that I wouldn't be able to do for myself (especially if an emergency came up) and my husband is completely clueless!

I've REALLY really wanted a UC for every baby, including this one...but my husband isn't really cool with that and although I think I could probably get him to a point where he would accept it and "go with it"....I tend to tear, so having someone there to stitch me up feels pretty crucial at this point. I would hate to have to go to the hospital for stitches, it would ruin the whole purpose of homebirthing for me. So....MW attended HBs are where it's at for me! An added bonus to having a MW attended birth, for me anyway, is that before you know it...while you are snuggling your new baby...your house has gone from "birth zone" to clean as a whistle again! My MWs throw everything in the wash and get everything spic and span again...I think that is so nice!

I am sad that I will never have the UC I've always dreamed of....but my MW really respects my wishes and "lets me" birth alone without bugging me...and really, at this point, I love my MW so much, that it is a pleasure to have her there. Good luck finding information. Have you checked out:

^that page is good...but I definitely suggest you cruise around the whole site. Especially:

and:

^on this last link, scroll past the hospital checklist and go on to the homebirth list, which suggests a bunch of really great herbs and tinctures for bleeding, etc.

Also Laura Shanleys site FreeBirth.com is really good. Check it out and good luck.

Yes thanks I have looked at them. My hubby was the first to voice that was what we should do. I was thinking it but didn't know if DSS would take kid if we did. Googled and found that site then many others. Wish your hubby would let you do what you wish to. But guess it is up to both of you.

I'm having a UP planning a UC. My last four pregnancies have been unassisted; I would only go to the hospital if I felt I needed to when the time came. Laura Shanely has a UC forum too; it's not very active, only a few posts a day, but it is only dedicated UC'ers and nothing but support and information :-)

I've only birthed unassisted in the past & was thinking I would again for this baby (#4) but have decided to go a different route this time as I've gotten the clear message that the best place for this birth is in the hospital... It was a difficult transition at first but now I'm feeling very comfortable & happy with the decision :)
