I'm interested to know as well.
I know that my DP is 36 and his mother was induced with him. Of course, he was due in late July and was actually born 8/20, so they certainly didn't induce at 40 weeks! My oldest brother (born 1960) was "three weeks" late. My mom had very long cycles, though, so I think he was probably pretty close to on time (he was 6 lbs even). I think that is one reason that induction has become more common--- there is a *better* chance that people know closer to their "real" due date (though even early ultrasounds can be up to a week off). Additionally, of course, there are just more medicalized options.
I hope someone knows!

I have looked and have yet to find anything that seperates induction rates by due date.
I have found that inductions increased dramatically from the late 1980s on.

Quote:According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the rate of inductions was 9.5% in 1990. In 2003, the rate more than doubled to reach 20.6%. There is reason to believe that the most current labor induction rates might, in fact, be under-reported. According to a 1999 review of 7,000 consecutive inductions, published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, (the Green Journal) the number of labor inductions may be closer to 40% in some community hospitals.
