Dishwasher fires- Consumer Reports article

This month's issue features an article on appliance fires - including dishwashers! The control boards can catch fire. Specifically Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, Maytag, Kenmore (which are all made by the same manufacturer). There is also a website www.kitchenaidfire.com started by a consumer to gather data to encourage a recall. There are loads of scary reports!

We have a Kitchenaid. I am freaked out. Our children's bedroom is accessed thru a little nook off the kitchen. We live in a 90 year old remodeled bungalow with a funky floor plan. I could switch the kids' room with ours (in the front of the house, accessed thru living room) but there are other issues with that.

For now I guess we will only run the dishwasher before kids go to bed and when we can monitor it. Scary!

lotus, I read these articles too! I was really concerned about our dilapidated dryer, and now I have resolved to only have it on when we are awake.

Which is incredibly bothersome, since it makes so much noise!

Oy!  Renting!!
