Okay - so DD has been on something of a potty strike for the past month or two, after learning to walk in November it seems it's been mostly potty chaos. There are a few things that are consistent... when she needs to go, she signs to me and goes into the bathroom (so that's good..) and waits til her dipe is off (also good) but then tough luck. If I hold her over the big potty like I did when she was a babe, she gets really mad and doesn't go at all. If I sit her on her potty (or on a seat on the big potty) she sits there for a second, I make cue sound, she makes the sound back to me (which she thinks is hilarious) and then gets down and pees on the floor. She also likes to take the two pieces of the potty apart and pee in between .. ugggh.
But I have noticed we are having some trouble lately because she's constantly trying to find a way to stand over her potty. She does not want to sit down on it. As soon as her bum touches it, she gets right back up. I think she is peeing on the floor because she can do that while she's standing. She climbs over her potty, straddles it, and tries to stand to pee (but she's not tall enough). I think this is related to her recent attempts to do EVERYTHING like my 3.5 y/o DS does, and she is clearly aware of his bathroom habits because we only have one bathroom, and when they both have to go, they both have to go. It's not like I can really explain to a 1 year old that boys and girls go to the bathroom differently, so how do I show/encourage her? She knows that *I* sit down?
