foxsmama - That sounds just awful. I hope something will work for you and you start to feel better!
Maman and kelantan - I ate two packs of Twix in the last two days. I would NEVER eat that in my normal life. In fact, I don't even like chocolate. Why can't I crave broccoli?
PinkBunch - I think at Target you can bring back once for a price adjustment within a certain period of time. You should try it!
Jilimy - I hope all goes well for you today. Good vibes coming your way! Being anxious and pregnant is not fun.
I am cracking up at the orange discussion! I have been eating grapefruit daily. I have one sitting here on my desk waiting for me. I peel it and eat the whole darn thing. I am so anxious for my first ultrasound - it's on Valentine's Day! I wasn't going to go into work until after my appt. (it's at 11) but I think I will have to come in just so I am distracted. I don't remember being this nervous with my first. I think knowing that there is an increased risk of miscarriage with age has made this one a bit tougher for me mentally. Any other "advanced maternal age" mommas here? I am 38 and will be just about 39 when I deliver. I don't feel "advanced!"
I wish I craved actual oranges....... what I crave (and eat...) all day long are orange-popsicles! they are just so perfect!
I cannot even look at veggies. opening my fridge is a problem, which means cooking is a problem. another strange nausea trigger- clothes that remind me of especially nauseas days- so weird! so my pink fleece reminds me of sometime two weeks ago when I was very queasy.... can't wear it anymore.
I also should report that ever since starting the progesterone gel (maybe 5 nights ago?), my spotting has completely disappeared! no hint! of course, it could be a coincidence, but my gut was telling me to take it. it was loud and clear. I take the Crinone (90 MG) every night. it was so worth it for my peace of mind. I feel like my mind stopped spinning out of control, which is what the spotting was triggering.
wishing everyone a fun weekend!
mymaya.
I am sooo going to try! In fact, I've decided that I will demand to return it and rebuy it. I am bad about things like that :) $32 is a LOT of money.
Jilimy--Thinking of you!
MacKinnon--Glad you're sticking around! That is one persistent, determined little bean you've got in there. And apparently some either super sperm OR a very hospitable environment...
oranges--Nope. Ewww. But I AM on the grapefruit bandwagon. My MIL brought some back from FL, and they are sooo good. I'm about to go get one now.
MissE--Now I want hibachi. Darn it!
mymaya--Happy to hear that the prog is givin you peace of mind AND a break from the spotting!!
AFM--I am now battling strep for the 2nd time this pregnancy. I got diagnosed two days before my BFP and now again yesterday. I am miserable and feel like I've been hit but a truck. It also is freaking me out that being so sick is bad for the baby. I haven't really had a fever, so that is good. But poor little bean anyway! I seriously am contemplating begging my OB for a visit just to take a peek and have some peace of mind. I have never been this anxious in the first tri before, but I also haven't been so ill. My nausea has let up just today, so again I worry. It was like this with my son--baaaad from 5w-8w and mostly gone by the end of 9w--so I hope that's just the pattern. But man, I am freaking out. *sigh*
Oh, and I am officially AMA this time. I turned 35 last month. The OB wants me to do a 1 hr glucose test now, just because of age. Umm, 2 years ago with my DS my midpoint glucose screening was in the 90s!! I don't think I have glucose tolerance issues. I don't need the screening. I am begging of on account of nausea...
Mackinnon, you're welcome over in the October DDC! I'm kind of hanging out in both. My midwife gave us an October 2nd date, but the fertility doc (who inseminated us and did our 6 week ultrasound) gave us a September 30th date. It's my first, so the babe will most likely come in October, but it's fun to come on over here and read how people are doing that are a few weeks ahead, especially because it's all brand new for me! :)
Mymaya, I've been on the 90mg Crinone since a week before our BFP. If it's your first time, I suggest you google "Crinone gunk." It's kinda gross, but when I discovered it, I thought there was something seriously wrong with me. I had to ask the doc because the insert says nothing about it. She wasn't super informative, but then I found more stuff online.
Jilimy, I hope everything goes okay today with the u/s.
As for cravings for me, cantalope & grapes with cottage cheese. I love chocolate normally, but I'm not interested in it right now, and most sweet stuff is a bit off-putting. Weird!
Oh, is there a "gunk" issue? it doesn't surprise me- I think I know what you mean, but since my spotting, that lasted 5 weeks, was very "gunky" at times, I was not alarmed when I saw it. I just thought it was my "normal" gunk". but thanks for the warning! so far I haven't seen anything; in fact, I have been surprised by the lack of discharge and "left over" gel, but I will be prepared for it now.
thanks!
um... that's part of the problem. You get that clear discharge, which is no big deal, but the really nasty stuff doesn't come out on its own. For some people, enough of a buildup causes irritation and spotting, but some people are on it 2x day. Apparently it can change colour depending on your body's chemistry too... ok, enough said. PM me if you really want to know more.
Why oh why did I think TACO BELL was a good idea for lunch?!
Oh my gosh, those Lindt truffles are so yummy. I can eat a whole bag in one sitting.
I think they are actually worth the price unlike Godiva which really isn't all that wonderful in my opinion. Although the chocolate/caramel blended drinks they make in store are delicious but the chocolate is just meh.
Ughhh I need some Lindt truffles now!
Ha! Oddly enough, Taco Bell has been a good thing for me this week. I hadn't been there in over a decade, but a couple days ago I was like- cheap, fast, bland.. fine. Let's do this.
My husband's reaction when he saw the bag later: "Oh, how far you've fallen!"
Jilimy: I hope it went well! PLease keep us updated!!!
Citrus sounds disgusting. Well everything does. Except chocolate and ice cream. I have lost a couple pounds since i eat hardly nothing. Not good. I am trying to work up the energy to do the Brewer diet... but instead i just grab ice cream and chocolate sauce. Oh first trimester. You and the lack of sleep from my two darling ds's are compromising my health :) Maybe i'll start... tomorrow! haha
Oh Foxsmama! I had hypermesis with my last one and it helped in my decision to wait 5 years before trying again!
Mine came on really late (peaked at week 14!) and fortunately in Canada - Diclectin really helped. I still threw up - but more like 4 times a day and not after every bite which landed me in emerg but just the once.
Hugs
hope you begin to feel better.
I finally saw my midwife!
She was super nice and non-concerned about anything. Very hands off. She said enjoy, don't worry and we will find a HB next time. I hate to wait to hear it - but I do like less intervention. So I will hear a HB for the first time hopefully on Leap Year! I will be 12 weeks exactly. Then we plan to tell DS which will be really nice.
If I can stand waiting
It will be a crazy 3 weeks to wait!
I haven't really joined into much conversation here yet, but I wanted to share some awesome news I received today -- my insurance is covering my birth center birth as in-network this time around!!! It's going to save us around $1500! DH and I are thrilled because we discussed the possibility of maybe using hospital CNMs at a "natural birth friendly" hospital in town to save some money. Even though we'd already decided that the extra money was worth the freedom and happiness we felt at our birth center, this recent development is just plain awesome :) I've thought about writing a letter to the insurance company to thank them for coming to their senses and seeing that paying less than 5k total for a birth that was technically out-of-network is a heck of a lot smarter than paying 10K for an in-network hospital birth.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

UGH...there should be some cosmic rule about stomach bugs and early pregnancy!! I have spent the last 13 hours cleaning up preschooler vomit. My 4yo started throwing up as soon as I put her to bed last night. Of course, my DH was not here, and she managed to hit every linen and blanket on her bed, the carpet, her throw rug, the bathroom floor AND the bathroom sink. ICK. I was worried I'd start throwing up and then not be able to stop!! I survived, though.
That's funny. My kids were throwing up and having diarrhea when I was 8 weeks. At one point, I literally let a pool of puke sit on the bathroom floor for 20 minutes until SO got home.
