At that age, my son was not at all into art. Only building blocks. :) But, if you look on Ambleside.com you would find some nice stories to read to him. I read Winnie The Pooh that year. He really loved it. I think I've read it at least three times now. And also Curious George. Folk tales were a big hit - like The Giant Turnip. He thought it was pretty funny. Especially when everyone fell on the mouse at the end.

These are short, age appropriate and literary.
We read these types of things right before bed. It helps him to quite down and is a special time for us.
