Foreskin retracted at birth

Hi.  I'm not sure this is the best place to post this.   My DS is 6 days old and intact.  At birth (like the minute he was born) the peds noticed a cyst at the end of his foreskin and that he was born with the foreskin slightly retracted.  His ped is not concerned about it since the foreskin is very elastic and can be put back over the glands.  The cyst is also slightly smaller and flatter.  However, it seems to me that the foreskin prefers to stay retracted - I notice it each time we change his diaper. 

Does anyone have experience with this?  Are there any long term consequences?

Hi there & congrats on your new babe!  

You said the foreskin seems to want to stay retracted.  I don't know what, if anything, you could/should do but I do know that the foreskin is designed to protect the opening of the urethra, which is where the pee comes out.  If the dr. wasn't concerned, then I would not be immediately concerned either.  I'm thinking if this was my child & not my first, I'd likely try to see if the foreskin would come down & cover the opening since that is part of it's purpose.  If it were my first, I'd likely be too scared to do much of anything :-/.  I do think I would want to have it looked at.

I'd suggest you either contact Marilyn Milos (who is also on this board under the experts section & I think you could ask this question there) of NOCIRC, she's a nurse, to get her opinion or contact Doctors Opposing Circumcision to get the name/number of a truly foreskin freindly doc in your area to have take a look.
