Those of you that have used garlic vaginally before GBS test.

I'm sure that I'll test positive again this time. I really want to avoid the antibiotic talk.

If I insert garlic vaginally for a week before my test, I'm afraid that I'll really smell like garlic when my OB has to do the swab. Yes, I'm selfconscious about it. Can you tell me for sure what the odor will be like?

I have no idea about the smell, but I'd love to know if this really works!!  I was pos and ended up on a penecillin drip for my labor which sucked.  It killed my plans for no pitocin when my water broke and I had no contractions for 14hrs, and since everyone was worried about the gbs affecting my daughter I caved once I got to the hospital and let them do the pen drip.

Hmm, interesting question! I'm not sure, though it doesn't really matter if you do smell like garlic, does it? Just tell him you had italian food the night before winky.gif

However, if you want to be sure you've killed off the GBS, without any lingering odor, I'd recommend trying a Hibiclens wash. Worked for me with #2, and it's been shown to be as effective as abx at eliminating GBS (it doesn't just fool the test--it actually kills the bugs, though GBS is one of those things that can come and go, even after abx).

Here's the Hibiclens protocol (you can buy it in any drugstore--blue bottle):

Thanks for the reply Xanadu. I think that I will try the wash before the test and then at home during labor before I go in just incase. If I remember right, I did a rinse with it before my test a few years ago ( I just threw the bottle away this morning! ) and I still had a positive result. I'll research to make sure that I do it right.

If you still have time before you test, you could/should work on systemic cleansing in conjunction with plans to use the hibiclens. You can take the garlic internally (ie, swallow it!) daily, along with a good probiotic containing L. reuteri (been shown to fight GBS), lots of vitamin C (several thousand mg per day), and antifungals like coconut oil, oregano, apple cider vinegar...

GBS is an intestinal bug, so especially if they're also going to be doing a rectal swab, it makes sense to fight it there too. Or you could just refuse the test, of course!
