newbie taking Labetalol

Hi!I'm new here and am wanting to ttc for #2.Anyone know anything about Labetalol??I'm told it's "safe" but I hate taking anything while pregnant.I take it for high blood pressure and only take 100 mg a day. I'm supposed to take 100 mg twice a day but it lowers my bp too low.I know high bp isn't anything to mess with,especially during pregnancy.Anyone out there have any insight?

Welcome to MDC!!    I don't have any personal experience with Labetalol, but you can easily look it up on the internet and see that it is considered pregnancy category C.  This means that not enough research has been done on the drug to know what effects it may have.  Personally, I do not take category C drugs while pregnant if I can avoid it (which usually is not a problem for most).  In general, with category C drugs you have to weight the benefits vs. the possible risks and decide if it's worth it.  With this in mind, I would absolutely ask your care provider if there is a category A or B blood pressure drug that you could take instead.  I would also try reposting this question in the I'm Pregnant forum to see if you can get some recommendations for different medications.  Good luck!

Thanks for replying!I did look up that it's a category C and I don't like that! And I've been considering benefits vs risks..still considering lol I may wait and see when I actually get pregnant,what my the midwife I want to see says.
