Alternative to coconut oil for deodorant?

I started making my own roll on deodorant with coconut oil, baking soda and cornstarch.  I love it a lot a lot a lot, but it appears I'm having a topical reaction to the coconut oil.  I'm so sad about this, because I really loved having a roll on again, but I can't think of an alternative.  Any suggestions?

Are you sure it is the coconut that is doing it?  Because I currently use the same stuff you are using, but prior to that I had tried just dusting straight baking soda on my pits.  The straight baking soda worked great but it irritated my pits so much that they became seriously raw and I had to drop it.  I have been using the coconut/baking soda/cornstarch stuff and it works fine, I had just a little irritation at first but it didn't last.  Just throwing that out there.

I've used baking soda before without irritation, so I don't think that's it, but you never know.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, I'm just replying because I'm very interested in changing over to a natural deoderant and if I can make my own so much the better.  Can you all point me in the direction of a good recipe or resources?  Thanks so much!

THe recipe I made that I love is:  melt 1/4c coconut oil, mix in 1/4c baking soda and 1/4c cornstarch.  Pour into a container.  I used an empty tp roll and poured a little into the bottom, then set that in the fridge (make sure it's on a plate or something before you pour) for a bit to set up, then poured the remaining in.

Here's another recipe I may try:

Still has coconut oil, but who knows, maybe it is the baking soda that is the issue for me.

Here is one that doesn't have coconut oil: http://angrychicken.typepad.com/angry_chicken/2008/07/homemade-deodor.html

I do find I get a rash from the baking soda though- going to try it with less soda next time....

I agree, it may be the baking soda... i found puting equal parts of baking soda and corn starch is still too much baking soda for my sensitive skin... i do one part baking soda to two parts corn starch now and it works much better.  too much baking soda was eating away at my skin, it was itchy and raw.

Any type of natural solid oil/butter works. I have used mango butter before and right now I am using cocoa butter. However I avoid baking soda at all costs because it causes a rash. Instead I use a little bentonite clay and corn starch. You can also combine different oils/butters to get a texture you prefer.
