Oh Mamas, i am desperate!

I am so backed up that my belly looks (and feels!) 6 or 7 months pregnant and i am only 2 months along. No word of a lie! And it's causing me to have more intense nausea than i already had! I am completely MISERABLE.

Please share with me what you take to get things moving along in there!!! I am still breastfeeding my DD so it needs to be something that is safe in that regard.

Thank you thank you thank you! I will be anxiously awaiting your responses! I am dying over here!

That is what happened to me! I wouldn't have a bowel movement for days and being so incredibly bloated made the nausea 10 x worse.

I seem to be doing ok this week... went through waves of this for just under 5 weeks. I only just realized TODAY that this is what was happening to me so I didn't seek out any treatment.

Sorry I'm no help but I sympathize!

Make sure you're getting enough water.  I was stopped up too, but went above and beyond my water consumption and it helped a lot.  I definitely notice it on days I don't get water.

The other thing I did is take a stool softener a few nights when things were really bad (and before I figured out the water thing).  It was ssomething I had MW-recommended from DS1 birth.

tons of water, and what really helps me is a few prunes with breakfast. I drink a glass of water before eating breakfast, then oatmeal with the prunes, and coffee. otherwise I would not go for days and it actually causes me to have uterine cramps. no thanks......:)

My MW and her apprentice are big on prunes, too. Couple a day.

Ditto. It's so painful. My whole abdomen just *aches* and feels huge.  It makes nausea and everything SO MUCH WORSE.

Ouch! Sounds painful! Have you tried not just eating more fiber, but eating less meat/animal products? I can't promise anything, but I'm vegan and I have one, sometime two good bowel movements a day and no issues with constipation. I think not having no-fiber foods in my intestines might help. Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you, that sounds just miserable.

I read this a while back on Cheeseslave: http://www.cheeseslave.com/are-you-suffering-from-magnesium-deficiency/ and now take a spray-on magnesium oil supplement (brand is Ancient Minerals) that works really, really well to promote regularity as well as lots of other nice health benefits.

Plus, when I had some spotting in week 6 my OB prescribed me a magnesium supplement (higher dose than my oil spray) - so to me at least, it's ok and even beneficial to take pregnant.  The only problem I had with the prescribed amount was that it worked way too well to promote regularity!

Thanks Mamas for your helpful and commiserative responses! I am sorry for those of you who are going through this, too.

I had a b/m this morning, naturally, but still felt nauseous all day until just before dinner when i felt kind of okay. Until i ate. I have been suffering big time ever since dinner, and i didn't even eat that much. 3 little soft tacos with ground beef and veggies and a salad. My belly is huge and hard as a rock and i feel like i can't breathe. I'm actually starting to feel kind of scared. What the heck is going on in there??? I have my first scan on Wednesday, so i'll let you know then if we see more than one! I will have a very hard time wrapping my head around twins, so it better not be triplets!!! I am honestly in so much agony that it has crossed my mind to end the pregnancy. I know, horrible thought!!! I would never do it, but that just goes to show how awful i feel. All i can do is cry. This is supposed to be a happy time.

No Mama,

If you are feeling this badly, I wouldn't hesitate to get myself to an emergency room.

If your belly is feeling rock hard and you are feeling bad enough that you want it all to be over, there might be something else - maybe even something else un-related to pregnancy going on.   Maybe you are just severely constipated - but feeling like you can't breathe IS scary and it's okay to go find out for sure if you might need help.

hug2.gif We are all here for you - but we can't be there - so tell your DP, your BFF or your Mom and go to Emerg and see what's up.

Thank you very much Kat. I really appreciate your kind words. I took your advice and went to emerge and they have booked me for an ultrasound to look for fibroids or cysts, or anything else that could be causing all of this agony. Hopefully i will get answers that can be treated so that i can feel better. Thanks again!

Well this is a hard one. I am going through something very similar. I am so backed up that I am in pain and misery! I feel like I have to poo all day long but nothing comes out. I got to the point that I was have horrible pain and cramps as though I had the worst diarrhea of my life, but I knew that there was never going to be any diarrhea because I am constipated. I also look like I am probably about 5 to 6 months pregnant when I am only 7 weeks. I need maternity clothes right now just for the bloat.

I have issues with fiber. I have never been able to take anywhere near the recommended amount because it gives me horrible gas and painful bloat. But at this point I have all of those symptoms anyways so I would just settle for being able to use the bathroom. I am taking Metamucil once in the morning and once before bed and it seems to be working to relieve at least the bathroom problem. I am doing that as well ass drinking lots more water and I try and walk or get active to keep things moving. I won't lie and say I feel way better, but I guess it is relief enough until either this pregnancy symptom subsides or I can find a better treatment.

Psyllium husks helped a friend with this problem. She just mixed them up in water and drank the slurry. It was a big help for her.

metamucil and psyllium husks did nothing for me.  The only thing that works is colace, and the pills are so easy to take.   The only thing that worked for my sister is miralax.  I know that is not the first choice for most providers, but her OB was OK with it.

Probably TMI but this is so crazy and has never happened to me before. I just had 2 big bm's 30 minutes apart. I am very happy about this, but i still feel like crap and my abdomen is still enlarged which, on my slender frame makes me look at least 7 months pregnant. I have a tiny waist and ribcage, so maybe there's just no place for anything right now other than sticking right out in front! The docs didn't find anything wrong in there, so i guess this is just the way i am built. Also, i took prometrium for just under 2 weeks and stopped because it was making me feel waaaay worse.

On a happy note, had first ultrasound yesterday putting me at 9 weeks today. Baby (only one in there!!) is doing great with a strong heartbeat!! Nausea is becoming more intermittent rather than constant day and night, which i am grateful for. Maybe this is a sign that the nausea will actually leave completely one day!!

Hope others in here are doing better. Thanks for all of your support and advice!

I am SO glad you sought help - and of course relieved when they found nothing to concern them!

I was thinking about you for days.  So happy that you got a nice little re-assuring ultrasound out of it too ; )

Thank you so much Kat :) Still struggling a lot, but at least i am starting to get small reprieves! I am really grateful for that.

Here are the midwife-y recommendations I've heard:

alfalfa tablets - start with two a day and increase up to six per day.

Prunes

Stewed prunes: soak prunes in water/hot water- add ginger or orange peel and eat them spooned over oatmeal or yogurt.

ground flax seed, flax oil, omega 3 supplement

Probiotics

Wheat germ

Plenty of water - 3 liters/day
