My daughter is 23 months and starting to use the potty. In addition to the 18 month gerber underwear hanging off of her, so are all of her pants, skirts, and tights if she is not cloth diapered. She is about 22lbs and I think around 31 inches. What do you put on your skinny young kids? I know some jeans have adjustable waist, but I also would like comfy and easy on/off for pottying. I am looking forward to summer, I know then I can just put her in smaller size bottoms and they wont be high waters like the pants.

I love having girls so I can just throw on dresses.  Great for pt as you can get away with no undies at home.

overalls are great for avoiding waist issues, but hard for kids to undo.

Might want to look into leggings for a closer fit.

My lo is just getting out of cloth diapers and needs all new bottoms, too.  Going the leggings route here.

I have a 22.5 lb 22 month old (32-ish inches), so we have similar issues with loose pants.  Leggings work pretty well for us, since they are snug at least in the legs to hold them up.  Have you tried skirts or jumpers with babylegs?  That might work well for pottying.

Same boat.  21 lb 24 month old, 32 inches.  She's at the point her 12 months pants are too short and her 18 month pants slip off her.  We're hopping on the potty learning wagon too so I don't know what we'll do once she's out of diapers...

Thanks everyone for the tips.  I haven't been a huge fan of baby legs so far, but I haven't tried them at this age, they might work.  She does wear a lot of dresses, but she is a loves of tights and even those aren't as snug as I would like and her little butt starts poking out.  I think I am going to have to find an underwear pattern too and just make her some.  I did try some leggings today and they stayed up.  DD is so particular in her clothing choices though,  so even if I do have the leggings on her that will stay up...she will just take them off.  I think a great solution would just be to crank up the heat in the house and let her go around with just her dresses on.

Have you tried leggings with an adjustable waistband? I recommend Polarn O Pyret. You can get them for about $10 during the twice a year sale - otherwise they are quite expensive.

Once the weather warms up the smaller-sized full length leggings can also be worn as capris, I suppose?

My tall, slim 2 year old (37 in, barely 24 lb) can be a challenge in the pants dept. too. She only likes very soft pants or leggings (no jeans/cords/etc). I mostly sew her loose pants out of woven cotton, fleece or knit - it's so simple it only takes 20 minutes and I can make the waist as small as necessary (and add inches to the length). If I buy or am gifted leggings, tights or fleece pants, I generally make a fold and stitch it down in the back to take them in a few inches. I use a machine, but it's easy to do by hand.  The place where the fold least bothers her is right at the back where a tag would be (I remove the tag if there is one), and I make sure to stitch it very smooth on the inside.

It really is nice in spring and summer when she can wear smaller sizes without having to worry if they're long enough - we do do dresses most of the time. They're just not practical for playing outside without some sort of leg cover.
