We are looking for an easy potty to start training. My 19mo old is showing interest and we recently purchased a Safety First potty that is waaaay too small and he freaks out any time we go near it. What potty is everyone having the best luck with? I am considering a Bjorn potty but I have read they are cumbersome to empty. Thanks!

Have you considered getting a toilet seat for him that attaches to the regular toilet? Some children, especially ones that are interested in the potty because they see mommy and daddy going, benefit from using the same toilet as their parents. There are several high quality and low priced toilet seats that are a 2-in-1 style, meaning they are a traditional 'potty chair' with a removable seat that can be put on the toilet. I would say these are the most beneficial because even if he decides he wants to just use it as the full potty chair, it makes the transition to the toilet easier when a seat he recognizes and feels comfortable with is on the toilet.
Â
A personal favorite of mine is the Safety 1st Cumfy Cushy 3-in-1 potty. When the lid is closed, it turns into a step stool, which is very important to have when a child is on the toilet. Not only does it offer a sense of security not having their feet dangle, but they need something to anchor their feet on to assist passing a bowel movement (Sounds strange, but if you don't believe me, try holding your feet in the air next time you 'go'). Of course, with his young age, you still might have to use something higher for him until his legs are long enough to reach the stool.
Â
You can see the potty chair I'm talking about here: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2580939 Again this is just a personal favorite of mine, other 2 or 3-in-1 chairs are just as good as this.
Â
Hope that helps!

We are using this BABY BJORN Â potty. Â It's getting the job done and my little one took to it very quickly. Â
My LO developed an immediate rash the day we started potty training and I wonder if it's from the potty. Â I've washed it, sanitized it and steam cleaned it but every time she sits on it it seems her bottom gets really irritated. I'm not 100% sure it's the potty, maybe just a weird coincidence.Â

We have the Baby Bjorn potty as well and it's fine, though it's lower in the front than our others so we've had more pee-on-the-floor incidents with DS. (Wasn't a problem at all my daughter.) We prefer the FP Froggy Potty and the "Once Upon a Potty" potty is our favorite.Â
Â
DS wouldn't sit on a big toilet for a couple months.

Dd2 uses both the bblp and an adapter seat for the toilet and sometimes I just hold her over the toilet. Â The potties were just want I had from dd1. Â Dd2 will randomly pick one over the other.
Â
Personally I like not to have to clean baby potties, but as dd is often going potty on her own, I fear her falling in or playing with the toilet water.
