It still sounds like a UTI, though I don't know what kinds of tests they did for you.  I would keep taking the antibiotics and start drinking lots of cranberry and or blueberry juice.  It has to be the 100% cranberry or blueberry, because the mixes have a lot of sugar.  That should help scrub out the urinary tract.  Ultimately though, keep listening to your doctors.  UTIs can progress to a kidney infection that would be very serious for you and the baby.  Unfortunately, they are common in pregnancy.

How far along are you? If it's pretty early on (like 1st trimester) you could have a tilted uterus. That would tilt back onto your bladder (if I'm not mistaken) and make it difficult to pee. As pregnancy progresses, and your uterus grows bigger, it tilts back up like normal by itself (in most cases). If you think this might be the case, you can do pelvic tilts and my midwife told me having sex helps. I had probably a mild version of that early on, and I think we figured out my uterus was tilted. It was hard to find the baby's heartbeat too at first (tried at 12 weeks, then heard it at 13-14 weeks I think). I felt like I had a full bladder but when I tried to go, it was a trickle. Hope that helps!

Yes, this. Try lifting up your belly and leaning forward when you urinate. Or doing hands and knees in the shower and trying to pee like that--try different positions that might relieve the pressure. I've had this before when my Diva cup wasn't in right, so it sounds as though you've got something (your uterus, most likely) pressing on your urethra or bladder.

Not emptying your bladder can lead to UTIs, so also load yourself up with vitamin C, cranberry pills and probiotics. And find a care provider who can actually help you!

A tilted uterus would have tipped forward by 23 weeks (much earlier, actually).  I have a very tilted uterus and it was completely tipped forward by 15 weeks.  But I agree that you should find a provider who is actually willing to work with you to find out what's wrong.

Primrose, you don't mention any pain at all - no flank pain, no abdominal or pelvic pain, and no pain with urination. You also say your m/w said your urine culture did not indicate a UTI. That does not sound like a UTI. A UTI requires bacteria in the urine. If your urine isn't growing out bacteria when they culture it, there's no UTI. Do you know what they found in your urine?

What you are experiencing sounds very, very, very much like a problem of the uterus blocking the flow of urine. Most women who have this problem with the severity that you do, do not develop it until the 2nd or 3rd trimester, but it's not a condition women who haven't experienced it generally tend to know about, so I wouldn't let it concern you if most women you ask don't know anything about it. Everything XanaduMama suggested is exactly on the mark. Try squatting in the shower, try all sorts of different (and usually inconvenient, lol) positions. Some women who have a very difficult time actually require catheterization to drain the bladder. Usually, this will help them sort of "reset" and they can go from there. Along with what XanaduMama suggested, once this does clear up for you, whether that happens through bladder drainage at the ER or you manage it on your own, you need to make sure not to let your bladder get too full again. You need to put yourself on a very strict peeing schedule - like every hour or less. When the bladder gets too full things get all crowded up, and you can start the cycle all over again.

I've had this problem in all 3 of my pregnancies, usually not starting until after the 17th week. The good news is that it generally only lasts for a few weeks, and once you know how to handle it, those few weeks won't be nearly as bad as what you're experiencing right now. I would still finish the antibiotics, because it could be a UTI (although I highly doubt it) and you've already started them. But along with the abx, I would definitely start trying alternate positions and if that doesn't help, go back to the ER and ask them to just drain your bladder. Once you get it emptied, pee on a schedule, and always remember to RELAX when you're peeing, otherwise you can get those muscles all in a spasm and that's just as bad as what you're experiencing right now. It's just a vicious cycle. Just empty the bladder (one way or another), keep it emptied regularly, and relax when you pee. That should really help.

Also, digestive issues can block things.  You can try some probiotics and a gentle diet for a few days.

Oh, I totally forgot about constipation. Yes, that makes a difference, too! :)

And if you have any kids, I found it easier to squat over a little kid potty when things got really bad. That way I could still squat, which helped me, but didn't have to pee in the shower.

Primrose, that's exactly how far along I am! :-) So definitely not an issue of tilted uterus. I hope you find a solution soon!
