Made the switch...

With peeing every 34 minutes and the amount of congestion I'm currently experiencing I was APPALLED by the amount of tissue products I was going through. I finally made the switch to family cloth...DH is totally not on board which is why I didn't do it sooner, but really, he uses what, 6 squares a day of TP? I use 6 squares about 16 times a day!!! I'll stick to TP for #2s, but just by switching for #1s I'm hoping I'll notice a significant reduction in tissue waste.

I went to the trift store bought 2 pairs of flannel pants ($2.50 total) and made 7"x7" squares....our sewing machine's in our house out of town though, so they are currently not hemmed at all....I'll get there...

Anywhoo...that's my story. I guess this means I'll be doing cloth wipes with the LO too. I was never into that before figuring there were bigger fish to fry than worrying about going through a tub of wipes every 3 months.

It's a great idea. We have a bunch of old dish clothes can could easily be giving a hot wash, cut in four and re-claimed as toilet wipes. Would just have to find a trash bin little enough to fit beside the toilet to use as a laundry bin. Thanks!

Oh man....this is something my DH CANNOT wrap his head around....but I really want to do it. Hmmmmmmm....you are making my "sewing fingers" itch! I feel a project coming on!

We switched to cloth tissues and cloth wipes a couple of years ago, I can't imagine buying paper ones anymore. We still buy toilet paper that we use for initial clean-up of number twos but I really can not just wipe with TP and leave it at that... eww. And since those disposable wipes all have harsh chemicals we all use a wet cloth wipe for final clean up after a number two. We also use cloth for any pees and it saves so much toilet paper; we probably use about a fourth of the TP we used to. We throw our cloth wipes right into the dirty clothes basket and wash them with our clothes. When we have this baby and have cloth diapers to wash again we'll throw them in the diaper pail but they don't create enough laundry on their own for a load. I know lots of people think family cloth is gross but if you only wipe your ass with TP you are just going to get what gets on our wipes on your undies and your washcloths anyway ;-)

Good point.

Yay!

I go through spurts of using cloth for TP.  Just for pee though.  DH is not on board either, but he doesn't use TP for pee, so obviously not an issue for him.  I noticed we would go through less than a roll a week when I used the cloth.  I just don't keep up with it.  We have close to 100 flannel baby wipes, so I just put a stack of those in the bathroom.  And we keep a diaper pail next to the toilet....so thanks for the reminder, I really have no excuses to not be using cloth!  Especially since we only have one roll of TP in the bathroom right now! :)

We switched over a couple years ago too, and DH was definitely skeeved by it at first and still used TP for a while.  I guess one day he dared to try cloth and is now a huge proponent of it.  It really does feel cleaner and (not to be gross) there isn't a whole lot of mess actually...the wipes and dipes are FAR FAR messier.  Now I can't believe we used to spend so much money on TP  The funny thing-- DS (2yo)  is just figuring out what TP is from now using public toilets since almost all of our friends also use family cloth- ha!  I love it :)

LOL! That is great. My 3yo calls it "wipe paper" and gets weirded out when I wipe her with it in a public bathroom. We always wipe her butt with TP at home before we wipe with a wet wipe but she doesn't really see the TP since we keep it in the cabinet. lol
