How are you going to (or did you) announce on Facebook? « Back to Group Discussions

I'm 13 weeks now, and finally had a chance to tell some close family members in person yesterday, so after my check-up today, I am going to announce on Facebook.

Last time around, I dropped some really subtle hints, and while that was fun, it sort of ended up being missed by a lot of people. I'd love to post something like "Need a swagger wagon for the new lemon" but I think that would be missed by most people, since they'd need to put together the fact that with a third kid we'd need a minivan (Sienna "swagger wagon") and that a 13 week old baby is about the size of lemon. But that's what I'd write if I was going to do subtle!!

Because I think it's HILARIOUS (and very catchy). Plus I have the same color/length hair as the girl who "got pregnant" so it fits. We got so many amused comments, and opinions on the name Cilantro!

Last time I took a photo of the older two kids staring at a hamburger bun in the oven.

I posted it on Facebook and e-mailed a copy to all of our family :)

Most of them got it, some of them didn't.  Like my SIL and BIL who replied with "Thanks for sending the photo, it's always nice to see new pics of your boys!"  and then proceeded to be absolutely shocked when we saw them next, I was 7mo pregnant by then LOL

I have no idea what we're doing this time.

I just took a pic of the pregnancy test, uploaded and let it fly....  It was really cute.  So many people were surprised and excited.  I do admire the really creative ways of sharing, though.

I posted a picture of Elsa in a "Big Sis" t-shirt.  I didn't get as many comments as I expected, which makes me think some people just glossed over it.  I suppose they'll get a surprise later.

My due date is 5 days after DS's birthday.  On HIS due date, DH and I went to the lake and he took a picture of me there - 40 weeks pregnant, sweating my butt off in a bathing suit.  I reposted it to Facebook and said something like, "You know what was fun?  Being 9 months pregnant in the middle of July.  So fun in fact that it seems I've decided to do it again!  Baby #2 is due July 28!"

I wanted to do this, but a good friend just announced their pregnancy on FB 2 days ago this way, and we have a lot of mutual friends, so it would seem kind of passe to do it right now! Amazing how many people don't "get it" even with something as blatant as that!! I bet it was a cute pic :)

I actually just posted pictures of my belly. With my last pregnancy, I posted a photo every week (which I love that I did) and plan to do it again this time. I made an album called Belly: Part 2 and posted pictures from week 11 and 12. It was awesome. I had only told a few close friends and immediate family, so nobody knew. Most of my responses were "What?!" and "Did I miss something?!" Everyone expected me to make some sort of formal status update or something...but I passed. I thought about having an oblique reference in a status update or something, but figured the photo would cut right to the point. It helps that my belly is pretty big this time around.

I just posted a picture of the ultrasound with a snarky introduction and "I'm pleased to introduce The Fetus."  I was never really an ultrasound person for FB posts or profile pics, but it does get the point across without any confusion.

I haven't and not sure when/if I will.  I have had two people with later due dates than me announce theirs.  One announced the day of the BFP test.

I haven't announced it yet. Our families know, and our close friends know. But for everyone else I am super nervous. I don't know why!!

Ha.  I had a post that everyone *thought* was a pregnancy announcement a couple years back.  My oldest was turning three and my baby was 4 months old.  I posted "I hope three is easier than two" and everyone went crazy!  Finally someone clued in and remembered DS1's birthday.  When my second turned three last month I could've said the same thing and meant it both ways, but I wasn't ready to announce.  In fact, I'm still keeping it a secret from all but a few friends.

I made my announcement on New Years Eve. I said something like: "My New years Resolution is to gestate a healthy baby until early August, as well as have a safe and peaceful homebirth"

As for me, I'm a very subtle person on FB.  I made an unsuccessful attempt last week when my DH posted on my wall that he was at the airport on his way home.  Even he didn't get my "public announcement".  It went something like this:

DH:  I'm on my way!

Me:  Yay!  We 3 can't wait to see you!    (3 being me, dog, and baby)

DH:  Are you making it public now?

Me:  Who, what, me?? NO ONE looks at my FB page!   (insert sarcasm)

DH:  Ok, well you can always delete this thread.....      (sigh, sarcasm totally missed) 

.... we got 2-3 thumbs up and that was it.

We did already tell our most important peeps (family and close friends) over the Christmas holiday, which was much sooner than we planned to.  That was because both of our grandmothers had passed away during the week before Christmas, so we felt compelled to share some positive and uplifting news with everyone, and they were overjoyed.  I was a nervous wreck though as we were only about 6-7 weeks along and had originally vowed to wait until 2nd trimester to tell anyone (due to 2 previous miscarriages).   Phew, we're still here.....   :)

So, back to FB.... I think I'm just going to update my profile pic with a nice round belly shot, with no comment or caption, and see what happens....
