How are you going to (or did you) announce on Facebook? - Page 2

I posted a picture of me from the side, because at the time i had the early pregnancy bloat, before the morning sickness caused me to LOSE 15 lbs....  and wrote:

"Guys, I should probably let the cat out of the bag and stop being smug and mysterious because several folks have asked. Yes, I am. I'm only 5 weeks but I'm #$(*&$ing showing already so i figured I'd say something before it became painfully obvious that no, i'm not fat, I'm incubating. :P

Luckily, I truly had the stomach flu the week of Thanksgiving and one of my friends who is an MD wrote "stomach flu my heiny, you're knocked up" and my response was something like HAHAHAH what would make you think that? with a private message immediately sent saying "HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW". So I was initially HOPING that the true stomach flu would be an explanation for the exhaustion and barfiness.... that I could hide until I was about 12 weeks.  No. After she wrote that, I got a flurry of private messages and public postings saying stuff like "WELL??????"

My DW and I tagged each other in the posts and said that we "are so excited to announce that we are going to have a baby!! We just got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! I am due sometime around when August becomes September!" Well, that's what mine said.  Hers was a little different, but same general idea.

We decided we would just be straightforward about it since we have had people post something that was so subtle that we had to look through past updates to make sure we hadn't missed the actual announcement. A lot of people knew we were trying, so we got a lot of responses. DW also posted a link to our new blog later that day which included a belly picture. I may change my profile pic to one of the more artsy photos DW took last week, we'll see.

After being on the IF threads for so long and seeing how many ladies no longer check FB or hide certain friends because the pregnancy announcements are too much for them, I really debated about whether I should put my announcement up on Facebook. But since I have a lot of people who I think would like to know I am pregnant, but whom I don't see very often/talk with much, I went ahead and did it.

My announcement (redacted for privacy winky.gif read thusly - it helps to know that I met my dh at a Halloween party, when he was dressed as a pirate):

So two years ago for my birthday weekend, I got to announce to the world that in three short months, Pirate had shanghaied my heart and we were getting married.

This year, I get to announce that, after a much longer year and a half of prayers and trying, we are adding to the crew of the good ship [our last name]! Baby [our last name] is expected to sail into the world sometime in August, and we are thrilled! Thanks to all who have supported us on this journey!

That's awesome!  (See, that would be a perfect follow-up post to my earlier failed attempt, in my ironic and indirect way....)

You guys are so creative!

I just said something like, "Our family is getting bigger in 2012! Look for a new ______ baby sometime in August."

We still haven't made "The Announcement" oops.gif

But word is getting out I guess!  I posted a photo of our new puppy and one of my online friends said something like "Oh just what a family of soon-to-be-six needs! LOL"

A couple people picked up on it, then my mom said something like "cute puppy, is there something else going on too??".

My poor friend was mortified when she realized we hadn't exactly told people, she sent me a message and said "....and then some lady said something implying that you hadn't told anyone...."     I just told her   "It's okay, that lady is just my MOM  hahaha"    I find it funny at least, my mom still hasn't called me, I don't know if that's a good or bad thing? :p

I think I'll just post an ultrasound photo in two weeks so everyone knows for sure.

I posted Baby #3 is due in August or something generic.  I am not creative.

I posted "Introducing:" and then the 12w3d u/s photo, tagging DP in the post.

Boots, I LOVE your post!

I posted a link to a recording of the heartbeat from my 16wk appt. Then said 'our hearts beat for...' and tagged my DH in the post. I just did it, so we'll see if people pick up on it. I don't post much, so it might take a minute. Otherwise I'll just have to post something a little more overt, like a belly pic, since I have one now. :)

I finally announced on facebook yesterday-- I was inspired to do so by "take your child to work day"  :)

I posted this picture, along with "It's take your kid to work day and I just realized that I take mine to work every day!"
