Cool birthday present idea

My friend's ds had his 7th b-day party yesterday.  One of the gifts he was given struck me as being really cool and I wanted to share.

The kid who gave it called it a "treasure hunt".  It was a medium-sized tin filled with rice.  Hidden in the rice were all kinds of "treasures": coins, a couple of candies, some small toys.  The b-day boy thought it was super cool.  I thought it was such a creative way to give a gift.  And also a great idea for a fairly low-budget gift (of course you could spend more on the "treasures", but if things were tight you could easily do it for just a few bucks).

Someone gave my ds a similar thing once, except it was shells and fossils (maybe purchased at a museum gift shop) glued on the bottom of the box with the rice on top. He didn't really get why someone gave him a box of rice and he wasn't into fossils at that time so it was a bit of a bust in his case. But it was an interesting idea for the right kid. He'd probably have liked the "treasure hunt" version better.

you know my dd being a sensory child REALLY enjoyed those kinda things even when seh was 4 and 5. i've done it with beans too.

i just noticed the reading level. that makes no sense to me. 18 and up? that is ridiculous. it isnt so much about writing but about doing. and dd's favourite was the wreck your journal.
