How to meet crunchy moms in Alpharetta/Atlanta area?

In the next couple of months we will be moving to the Alpharetta area for DH's job.

I would love to make new crunchy mom friends but I can't tell from looking online where that would be.  For my sanity I will need to get out of the house with our 2 yo (spirited!) DD but besides the parks/malls/restaurants I'm not sure where to go.  (And I really don't like the mall and eating out with DD is stressful)  In our current city we have memberships to the zoo and kid's museum but they were only 20 minutes away...and in ATL it seems like it would be an hour from Alpharetta.

I would love any information from moms in that area!  I am of course open for any and all playdates!

I live in the area, and I have my whole life.  It has been difficult for even me to find a mom community to hang out with.  This past week I was invited to a play group at a Unitarian Church in the area.  I was a little hesitant because I don't typically like church groups.  However, this group wasn't your typical.  We sat outside with the kiddos and talked about cloth diapers, midwives, natural stuff and gardening.  Things like that.  For me, it was a little elitist crunchy, but that may have been my mood that day.  Anyways, you may enjoy it, everyone was very talkative.

there is a calendar on there that shows play group at 10am on Thursdays.

I'll be going back this week to give it another try.

Thank you for the info!!  I will check it out. Hopefully I will see you there in a couple of months!  I'm certainly not elitist crunchy but maybe I can fit in with the group.  Thanks again!

the local ICAN chapter has many moms (including myself smile.gif ) that live in the north atlanta suburbs and on the crunchier end of the mom spectrum

it's a birth advocacy group but we have an active message board including off-topic areas and a strong community feel - we do playgroups and MNOs and it would also be a great place to get ideas of activities, parks and the like.

there's also an active homeschool group, Alpharetta Inclusive Homeschoolers, that has regular park days. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AlphaHome/
