Echinacea in pregnancy?

The rest of my family are all coming down with a nasty cold, which is usually when I break out the Echinacea tea for myself...but I'm not sure if this is ok in pregnancy!  Anyone have any insight?

I was just wondering this the other day, but haven't had time to look it up yet.....studying for a test. Hopefully someone will jump in :)

There aren’t many studies as to Echinacea and pregnancy. Most doctors say to avoid any herbal supplements, especially during the first trimester. I would avoid it…blowkiss.gif

Echinacea is pretty strong, and I would avoid it.  I think Black Elderberry is ok (though obviously you want to research that), and of course, gargling with salt water is good for killing throat germs.

I'm a midwife and think its fine for pregnancy! I'd ask your care provider and see what they think though.
