Underwear Woes

I need new underwear and I hate the idea of spending money on it.  Where do you buy your underwear?  And how do you not bust out laughing seeing how big the dang things look off your body?  I seriously don't even know if an XL for Victoria's Secret would fit me, not that I'd buy there unless they had super sales though.  I try just buying inexpensive clearance undies but they are always too small.  I think I am delusional about my underwear size!  Plus, they should just mark them like pants or something, I have no idea what to buy in a Hanes pack.   I'm only up 7lbs, but I am waaaaaaaay bigger in the hips and all my old (needs replacing anyway) underwear are too small.

I have been thinking about this same thing.  I just got some cotton bikinis in the next size up (6 or 7 pack from Target) and so far they are fine.  Last pregnancy I got some maternity underwear that fit great, but were more expensive than the multipack at Target.  And I agree, even if you aren't gaining weight, things are "spreading out" so you need a new size!

I get my panties at target. They have a gillian omalley bikini that is all cotton, has a full bottom (they have a thong too) and an entirely lace top so there is no elastic to cut into the belly and they will last me through the whole pregnancy in my normal size. Plus they aren't in plastic and I can actually hold them up to look at what will fit. I think I pay $7 a pair. They don't hold up that well but at least as well as any FOTL or hanes and I don't know about anyone else but pregnancy underwear are NOT something I want to wear after the baby is born anyway. Extra discharge, leaking pee, mucus plug..... ewww lol

I love Gap Body underwear.  The basic cotton ones are really comfy and have a surprising lack of panty lines.

thanks for sharing your sources ladies! i needed a thread like this - not many of my underwear are fitting me right now. thumb.gif

I've cut off the legs on a few pairs of leggings.  Super comfortable.  Even did this on a pair of maternity leggings.  So comfortable.  So dorky.

I'm with Krista DJ, I don't want to wear these pregnancy underwear after the baby comes.  Although for the first couple weeks, I won't care what my underwear look like, just as long as they are super comfortable.

I second the Gillian O'Malley.  I wear them all of the time, and have different sizes for maternity...they have a spandex type material that is just awesome and they fit perfectly, with a nice little wide band at top...don't know what I would do without them!  Just put away my small normal ones and pulled out the XL's!!It's time!

I am so glad I went. Undies were on clearance for $2.50 and I found two nursing tanks on clearance for $13.50.

when im not wearing pregnancy spanx i just go commando.  last PG i had motherhood maternity panties and liked them a lot.

I just bought some pairs of cheapo clearance cotton undies at Kohls in size XL.  Maybe if things continue to go the way they have been, I'll be moving up to the XXL by the end.  I just ditch them all about 3 months after birth when things clear up.  I agree that pregnancy and postpartum underwear is a lost cause. Sharlla, I would go commando too but discharge spots on work pants seem to be taboo at my office shrug.gif  Go figure!

I am so needing new undies.   I will likely go the bikini route too.  I had bought some maternity WAY back with #1 and #2 and still have some of them.  This being our last I don't want to spend a ton on undies that will only fit a short time.

Target nursing tanks are the bestest!

Bad undies are SO bad...ugh!

I have some Motherhood Maternity ones that were a gift in my first pg...and let me tell you, holy crab cakes are these awesome. I've worn them during and after both of my pregnancies...they are so comfy. 100% cotton, full coverage on the bottom and back, but a low cut "bikini" I guess it's called, so...seamless with low rise...SO good! I love them. They are starting to fall apart, but you know..three pregnancies, what do you expect.

I will, with great embarrassment, admit that when they gave me those meshy underwear at the hospital when I had that terrible bleeding at 12 weeks and had to go in, I loved them so much that I WASHED them and have worn them since. Don't laugh, don't judge....they are THAT comfortable.(now I know what hospital birthin' mamas are talking about when they talk about "the meshy underwear" - holy shit are they good!) I've since figured out that you can buy them on line. Am I a freaking weirdo for wanting to spring for a multi-pack of those? They are SOOOOOOOO comfortable. It's like wearing a cloud. Plus, they hold mama cloth very nicely in place for increased discharge and, well, I'm in love. I'm seriously in love.

I LOVE the maternity underwear at Motherhood Maternity.  Actually, I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it, but after my older son was born, I not only kept wearing my maternity underwear, but I bought more and got rid of most of my other underwear.  I'm not sure what kinds they have, but I got the bikini cut, the ones that dip under the belly.  More amusingly, my boyfriend has given me free license to buy all my underwear there even after the baby's born.  He said it's the most attractive underwear he's seen me wear, at least as far as the plain stuff goes.  I swear, if I never wore anything else, I'd be a happy, happy girl...

Don't be embarrassed, I have a pair that I wash and reuse too lol I have only ever used them post-partum but I plan to get some more for after this baby because I would like to wear them pretty exclusively while I'm bleeding.

I do have 8 pairs of maternity unders, and I loved them, but they are part of the collection with holes in them.  It's been a few years and I totally wore them inbetween pregnancies too.  The Gillian O'Malley ones I got were XXL.  They didn't have an XL's and I wasn't going to risk buying a large and having them be too small.  Sure enough, the XXL's fit.  Now I keep getting that country song that says, double-X-L in my head.  But that's the only line I know! :)

acordio - I love the Target nursing tanks too, I was super pumped to find two on clearance.  I live in those things after having a baby.

Man, everyone I know LOVES those target tanks....I was so excited after my son to try them. WAY too short and not nearly enough support. I broke down and got the glamour mom tanks and will never look back. I'm a looong lady and I get so self conscious PP about my shirts riding up. The glamour mom really hugs me and the "long" size is so nice and long and stay down. I love it! Plus the bra inside is super rad and give so much support....I really, really wanted those target tanks to work though because of the price. Everyone I know absolutely raves about them.

The Motherhood Maternity undies are my go-to's. I stopped wearing super flirty undies around the time I got pregnant with my DD and I never went back. I think my DH would love to see a thong or two in my drawer...but seriously, when I think about some of the undies I used to wear, I'm like WHYYYY!!! The thought of a thong at this point sends shivers down my spine. I need coverage, 100% cotton for good air flow and SUPER comfy.

One thing to consider with the nursing tanks is whether or not you will be returning to work and wearing them for pumping.  The Target ones have a hook that is compatible with the Medela Freestyle handsfree system, the GlamourMom ones are not compatible.  Just a little tidbit I learned....and I admit that that was as of 3 years ago, so I guess it's possible it has changed.  But it's worth checking out!

I have one Glamourmom tank and I found the band to be itchy and uncomfortable...too supportive I guess!  The Target tanks are definitely not supportive, but I don't mind sporting the saggy uniboob for those first few months.  I do have two fitted/sized Bravado nursing tanks that fit now, long over my belly, and I think I will use those more often this time.  With it being summer, I just might feel comfortable enough to wear one of those without another top on.  I definitely put a shirt on over my target tanks, my boobs will be bigger than a G cup when my milk comes in and it's not a pretty sight.   If you want to try a Bravado tank, I bought one on babysteals not too long ago, but they usually cycle through and they'll probably come up again before we have our babies.
