Well, I'm German...so I can usually ask about anything. Just sometimes it is hard translating things like "grassfed meat", and they look at me a little funny.
A lot of animals are fed "silage"(ger.), grains and just little grass and hay.
I also eat some potato or rice, because I very slowly transitioned from a SAD diet into the paleo diet, and I would have episodes of dizziness, probably due to the lack of carbs.
Sorry it is messing with your lo's tummies. If you have any questions regarding german stuff...foods, brands...whatever helps you find more suitable foods, feel free to message me.
We have some organic farms around here, that also sell good meat. We like Dottenfelder Hof in Bad Vilbel. And Margaretenhof in Karben. By car it is not far, but you might have farms closer to you.
Pesticides - in German markets fruits and veggies from around the world are sold, and many do have a bunch of pesticides and other toxins. Mostly you are still advised to buy Bio only if you want to be sure: http://www.greenpeace.de/themen/chemie/nachrichten/artikel/pestizide_in_obst_und_gemuese_auf_die_herkunft_kommt_es_an/
„Nur etwas mehr als die Hälfte aller Obst- und Gemüseproben in Deutschland sind frei von Pestizid-Rückständen“, sagt Manfred Krautter, zuständiger Experte bei „Greenpeace Deutschland“.
|Only about half of fruit and vegetable samples taken in Germany were free of pesticide traces, says Manfred K, Expert in charge for Greenpeace Germany...|
I'm sorry you have trouble keeping your weight up, that is the opposite of my own problem. ;-) You might try added good fats with a starch like sweet potato (sadly I and my son do much worse with those than even white potato) or coconut milk with fruit for a carb/fat blend that is both (extremely) palatable as well as insulin raising. My kids adore strawberry coconut milk icecream with no added sweetener other than the strawberries.
Thats sounds delish, will try it for sure. I have tried other sources of fat, but so far none worked as well as butter when it comes to keeping my weight up. However from what I read on the raw paleo forums, raw butter is not all too bad, because it does only contain the fat from dairy, plus it is raw. Once I have stabilized, I will try to cut out the butter.
Sorry for the late reply btw., I did not receive an email notification.
