I live in a small (1080 sq ft) house, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. I have a six year old girl and a husband. I am looking for creative ways to fit the baby into our house.
We have a den "area" in our front room, but it is put to good use and I don't want to give it up. Our house is basically one big room with two bedrooms and a bath. My daughter has the largest room. My plan so far is to have her share a room and to get bunk beds so I have a place to sleep with the baby if he turns out to be up a lot at night. We will cosleep but my husband is a light sleeper and we have a small bed. There is no room in our bedroom for a crib but there is room for a small cosleeper. I did use the crib with my daughter for naps and after a while she used it at night. I know a lot of people never used a crib but I need to make space for one.
So I need to fit a crib, a place for baby clothes, a changing area, diaper storage, and a diaper pail into our house. I'm going to use cloth diapers.
For people with multiple kids:
My daughter is a heavy sleeper but will a crying baby wake her up?
Has anyone else slept in their older kids room with a baby?
Is nap time on weekends a drag because there is a baby in the older kids bedroom?
Cloth diaper set up:
Has anyone set up a diaper area in their bathroom? This makes the most sense to me. It means I have to do a bit of construction to make room, but I don't mind.
Does anyone have any amazing ideas on making room in the house for another person? What are other people doing?
We do have two couches and I thought of getting rid of one and putting a bed in it's place. Good idea or kinda funky, I don't know. I want to make changes now instead of when I have a one year old. Maybe that's not realistic though.
Help! I don't want to feel cramped. Should I turn the den into a baby's room? It means taking a part a great space but then my daughter will have her own room. The washer and dryer are also in a closet in the den area.
