According to Paula Abdul on Extra yesterday, the contestants have already started to rehearse with Barry Manilow, who will be perform next Wednesday on the results show. I don't know if he will be the guest judge.

She also mentioned who will be the guest judge the following week, but I cannot remember right now who it will be... pregnancy brain... grrrrrrr.......

Did anyone else notice how sad John Stevens looked when Ryan said JPL was going home? I think JS realizes that he doesn't belong there, and he can't believe that people are voting for him. He looked like he was going to cry.. and he gets to stay! You'd think he'd be happy!

My money is on "Copacabana" for JS next week. I can hear it already. Unfortunately.

can I ask you Idol fans please - when randy says "I've got to give you your props" (or something like that), what does he mean?? it sounds positive! like "give you your due credit" for a good performance - but is there a more specific meaning? and where does this phrase come from? I had never heard it before

TIA!

I think you're right, it means giving someone the "proper" respect they are owed. (I think that may be where the term comes from, someone correct me if i'm wrong?)

Coolness, I even found a link confirming my theory:
http://phrases.shu.ac.uk/bulletin_bo...sages/772.html

I heard Barry saying he wanted extra rehearsal time so he could help the singers really get into the songs (was that his polite way of saying many of them have been awful lately?)

Yes I think it was? I think he is afraid, as he should be, that his songs will be butchered.

My vote is the John S does " I write the songs that make the whole world sing." He has done up tempo and stunk up the place so I think he will play it safe and so a slow number.

Thanks for the info Claudia! Gotta love the pregnancy brain!

well, I am shocked and gutted that JPL got the boot He was my main man. Ok, he couldn't sing, but he had something, and I'll miss it You can all flame me as much as you like!! I think maybe it was the entertainment value- I loved his dancing.

The rest I all like, apart from Diana and John. They have to go. Jasmine isn't great either. I have my money on Fantasia, Latoya, Jennifer (as her scary eyes have toned down) and George as the final four.

OK, you can kill me now, but I do not like Fantasia

Her voice affects me like fingernails on a chalkboard. Something in the tone. It's like Macy Gray........... they both affect me the same way.

(building a brick wall to block all the flames )

Dont feel bad because I dont like her either...She did a great job last week but she bugs, bugs, bugs me! Her attitude is way over the top and most of the time her voice irritates me....You are not alone....
You are def not alone. I just don't like her style, but I can see that she is talented, I just don't like it. I don't care for Eminem(sp?) or Snoopy Dog either but look how successful they are?:LOL
post #50 of 108
Sometimes that difference is what can make someone popular. No one else sounds like her.....so thats a selling point to some degree. She doesnt bother me......

All the women have really really HUGE mouths though! Have you noticed? But thats actually a good thing when youre a singer, if you know how to use it of course. I took singing lessons for awhile....and was surprised at what a physical thing it really is.

Paula mentioned on ET that next week Gloria Estefan would be "on our stage." I don't know if that means she'll be a judge or not?
SoccerMom, you did call him "Snoopy Dog" on purpose, to be funny, right? Or was that just the funniest typo I've seen in a long time?

Oh, and I believe it's "Snoop Dogg," gotta remember that second "g"!!! : That reminds me of that guy on Survivor once, named Robb with two b's...my dh and I always referred to him as Rob-b (pronounced "Rob-ub")

This has nothing to do with American Idol, I'm sorry

Here's the happy dance I did when JPL got the boot:

He had the oddest facial expressions the whole time he was standing there on stage in the bottom three, didn't he? He is just WEIRD.

I am NOT looking forward to the Manilow theme...ugh. Whose idea was THAT?

I don't think Fantasia has an attitude - I think she's just sort of kidding around. She actually seems really sweet to me!

I can see JS doing "Copacabana" too!

This whole post is totally disjointed - I've been in the sun all day...'scuse me! ild

YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gloria Estefan!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's who it was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think she is supposed to be a guest judge, but don't trust my pregnancy brain...

I am not sure if I am looking forward to or dreading this week's episode... I mean, Barry is okay and all, but a whole hour of his songs being butchered by people who could be his kids? Hmmm...

Oh well, thank goodness for TiVo.

warmly,
claudia

I am dreading it. Definitely.

*D*R*E*A*D*I*N*G* *I*T*

Not a big Barry fan here.

:LOL Well when I read your post it made me laugh too! And no the typo was an accident! I KNOW it's not Snoopy, can you tell I spend too much time with my kids :LOL OMG I am dying here right now!

Yes it is Gloria Estefan and her band the Miami Sound Machine is going to back them up! THAT should be interesting, hopefully they don't drown out the singers like the last live band did!

Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand are pretty darn perplexing to me. BUT.... that's just the nature of music..you either love it or you hate it, and I think the majority of the population is loving Fantasia, including myself. She's the first contestant ever that has seemed to me to be really groundbreaking. Yeah, she's tough and definately has some personality, but I don't see anything wrong with that. She's sure of herself, that's good...love of self, I don't think it's egotism. Of course with Leah I despised her and wanted her to leave, but I mostly felt that it was her mother's dream, not her own, and therefore, she wasn't really sure of herself and lacked love of self. Fantasia seems like a strong woman, too me. I used to work in a record store and see this a lot. For some reason we all have different tastes in music and I think it has do to a lot with our upbringing, life experiences, and just general perception of the world. For those of you who don't like Fantasia, I respect your opinion, but I've already chosen my winner.

Honestly?

I enjoyed *all* of the performances, even John Stevens who sang
Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
Mandy. His performance was weak, but there was emotion in it, at least at the beginning and I enjoyed it.

Even Simon seemed surprised at how good everyone, well, all the females, sounded. Barry put it sooooo much work and it shows.

I'll write more later, I don't want to spoil anything

I dunno, maybe its the pregnancy hormones, but im tired of these "guest judges" who are there pimpin' a new CD out or something. I wasn't blown away buy anyone tonight, a few were great, but no chills like I had last week...
