What are you looking forward to with pregnancy? (other than the baby of course!)

Thread Starter

Since 1st trimester is so miserable for many of us, I thought I'd start a thread on the more positive pregnancy aspects.  So what are you anticipating with this pregnancy that you appreciated about your last pregnancy (if this is your 2nd or more)?  Or if this is your first, what are you hopeful for?  Here's my list:

No more cycle-related headaches

No more menstruating for the next year (or two!)

The relaxin hormones completely relieve a little Morton's Neuroma I have in the toe joints of one of my feet.

The intimacy of feeling a little squirming baby inside me, and the ease of not having to change, nurse, walk it to sleep, etc. yet!

During the second half of my last pregnancy I noticed that I didn't have ANY underarm odor anymore - something about the hormones, I assume.  So not having to use deodorant is a little plus!

Starting in 2nd trimester last time I had more energy and better mood than I had pre-pregnancy!  (hoping for similar this time, cause right now I'm miserable and completely unmotivated)

Higher libido (again, starting 2nd trimester)

This is a great idea, Brambleberry!  It is SO funny that you mention no underarm odor.  I haven't used any deodorant in either of my pregnancies for the same reason.

I am looking forward to talking about the new baby with DS who wants a baby brother really bad.  (Not sure that is what he'll get, of course!)

Feeling stress free.  During the second and third tris I seem to be anxiety-free.  That's not my normal state!

Definitely looking forward to a higher libido - especially higher than the complete absence I have now!

My big belly.  I love when I am showing for sure.

The other day I opened my desk drawer at work and found a box of emergency tampons. I was really happy when I realized I could just take those home, because I wouldn't need them at work again!

This is my first pregnancy, so I am eagerly anticipating feeling those first movements. I am also looking forward to when my husband (and loved ones) can feel the movement from the outside.

I like this idea, too! I love being pregnant (minus the first trimester)!!!  Here is what I am looking forward to:

-increased sex drive from not feeling so sick all the time

-super happy all the time

-body looking pregnant

-my house gets super clean during the last trimester (thank you nesting)

-People are nicer to pregnant women

-extra swimming

-feeling the baby move

-going to prenatal appointments and hearing HB on doppler

And finally....

Giving Birth!!!  Labor and delivery are my favorite things in the WHOLE WORLD!!!!  I look forward to it from even before I get pregnant!  My friends and family think I am completely bonkers, but it is true!  joy.gif

I don't know what I can add to what's already been said ...
I'm definitely, definitely looking forward to hearing the HB on the doppler (FX)
getting to tell all of my friends and family about the new baby (2nd best part about pregnancy)
feeling movement (best part)
rocking a belly
prenatal water aerobics
going to the chiro
taking extra-good care of myself
being mindful
no dieting! (I'm a weight watchers lifetime member)
belly makes a convenient shelf for books, plate, etc

Edited to add: 2 years of being period-free is pretty sweet, too. I didn't get PP AF back with DD until 17 months - I'm hoping that trend continues!

My favorite thing is taking warm baths and seeing the baby cruise around in there. To see an elbow or foot fly across my stomach from the inside is just incredible. A bath isn't necessary, of course, but I really like them!

FTM, so maybe I don't know enough to know what I'm looking forward to. ;) With the change in hormones and blood flow, I haven't had migraines/tension headaches since getting pregnant (*knocks wood*), and I hope I can look forward to more of that. Having active dieting, or feeling like I should be, completely removed from the equation is great too.

Really though.. I want to hold this baby. :)

- Sharing the news

- once I am not so sick- pregnancy yoga/support groups at a local "red tent"

- making new friends and community with other new moms

- putting together nursery

- reading books about mothering and child rearing

This really is such a great idea! Sometimes i worry too much and it totally made me stop worrying and start bonding with the baby!

  • I look forward to hearing the heartbeat March 6 (!!!!) and getting to start bonding more
  • Getting to feel the baby move
  • Having DH feel the baby move--one of my favorite things ever! It makes it so much more real for him!
  • The ultrasound and finding out WHO our little angel is! We call the baby by its name from when we find out gender! I love it!
  • This time i am so excited to see how my 3 y/o reacts to feeling the baby and seeing the ultrasound! I really think he is going to love it!
  • I am actually excited for delivery too! I had a section first, and CRAZY VBAC (though VBAC nonetheless) and i am so excited to really appreciate the power of my body!!!
  • I am looking forward to more ENERGY! and maybe a somewhat clean home!
  • Sewing sewing sewing! It makes me feel so bonded to baby!
  • The intense movements where you entire body shakes and pulls and it looks like baby is going to jump out of your stomach!

OH!!! This made me so excited! joy.gif I am just so excited to meet our little baby love! I love him/her so much already!!

I'm there with you!  I didn't get my PP AF back until 24 mos with DS and 22 mos with DD!  I LOVE that part!  It's a big part of the reason our kids are spaced the way they are.  :-)

I am loving reading all of your lists! Relaxing, soaking up all of the baby/belly bonding, and taking good care of ourselves seem to be on everyone's list, aren't they lovely :)

This is my first pregnancy, and so far I am really relishing in:

- a Gowri Motha birth hypnosis cd that I bought for $5 from a lady down the street - so relaxing and positive

- sharing the news! we have friends and family all over the place, and there are no other grandbabies on either side yet, so I am getting texts, calls, e-mails and post from South Africa, the UK, the US, Indonesia etc and I am really savoring each and every one.  the outpouring of love has been huge and (in my emotional state) I am really moved by it all.

- my husband, again, maybe pregnancy hormones, but I am feeling such overwhelming love for him.  especially at night or in the early morning hours, i find myself needing to wake him up to tell him how much he means to me and how happy i am - he's kind of over it! hahaha.

- extra love - my husband hasn't said much about the pregnancy (that's his way) but he does the dishes every night now and makes sure that I'm completely taken care of.  For example, if we're eating fruit and there are only five strawberries he will insist that I eat three and he eat two. He is paying attention to every detail now and showing his enthusiasm by making my life as easy and nice as possible.  he's always been like that but now it's of increased importance to him, you know what i mean?

- the thought of a homebirth with my midwife just thrills me to no end

- that pregnancy has heightened ability to make decisions - people / situations / things that aren't right for me I have just let go of without hesitation, and I am feeling more bonded and connected to the great people and things in my life then I ever have been. It's been so refreshing.

I'm crazy for the baby stage, but beyond that I'm really looking forward to reading great books to our child, having pancake breakfasts, making up nicknames, traveling together, seeing the child walk to school with the other kids.

What a wonderful, beautiful thread thus far!

I'm looking forward to:

-- Having a belly.  It takes me forever to get one (I'm 5'11" .. and with a bit of extra fluff), but seriously, pregnancy is SO GOOD to my body. I rock it. I look good and feel great.  (sounds so egotistical!!  But it's true! I don't gain much at all and really *do* feel radiant!)

-- making tiny diapers.  I *LOVE* itty bitty fluff!

-- energy. After getting past the inital exhaustion, I get SO MUCH DONE!

-- feeling kicks. And getting to where dh can feel them too. It's so much more real and magical then!

-- Experiencing pregnancy through the summer. Having only had March and December babies thus far, a belly in the summer is a new experience!

-- Having a REAL homebirth in my OWN HOME! Last time I was in a home in another state. It was wonderful and beautiful, but gosh.. my own home just sounds dreamy.

More.. but.. it's bedtime and my four girls NEED to sleep!!!
