On Kellymom it states that the prolactin levels drop a few weeks after delivery.
My prolactin levels were tested because of my pituitary tumor that was found in 2010.
My number is 297 μU and it says the normal range is anywhere from 46.0-622 μU (!!!).
However, after quitting the pill in 2009, I started experiencing hair loss due to raised prolactin, the tumor was found and the number there was 29.6 ng/ml with the norm being 4.8-23.3 ng/ml.
At first I was thinking my prolactin is sky rocking, but the doctor said it was perfectly normal (???)
Now I have 2 thoughts...
1. It is a different measuring system/ unit, after all doctor 1 is from New York, doctor 2 from Germany. Nanograms vs. microunits? Just a guess...
2. The normal range is flexible in some cases? But not sure about that one.
Who can help me figure this out?
The previous doctor already suggested to stop breastfeeding because of my pituitary tumor causing hair loss (again right now). But I wanted to nurse my son much longer,if we can even do child led weaning. Hair loss is just whatever, I can deal with that.
But I am curious about my levels because it can also be an indicator for tumor growth.
