So sad. After some bleeding yesterday, I requested an imaging ultrasound to confirm that the baby was okay. At that time, the baby had a heartbeat and was moving around on the ultrasound. However, I was shocked to be told that our baby had a condition called alobar holoprosencephaly, which is a brain development defect incompatible with life. Although we were not considering termination of the pregnancy, we scheduled an appointment with a genetic counselor today to discuss our options for testing since this problem is frequently associated with some of the major chromosomal disorders (trisomy 13 and trisomy 18) and we wanted to have confirmation of a sort. On the repeat ultrasound there, we found the baby had died sometime in the previous 24 hours. So now we wait. This is the hardest thing I've ever done.
